香水是由著名小說改篇。原著得到多國讀者推祟。作者旨在以古諭今，諷刺世人不辨是非和社會不公平的現象。唯拍成電影後，難免覺得有點誇張，脫離現實。不過片中盡顯導演心思，拍攝角度每每給予觀眾驚喜。主角賓韋沙亦演得恰到好處，而德斯汀荷夫曼與阿倫力文的演出更是錦上添花。片末的裸露造愛場面極為震撼。小說在各地暢銷，或許是讀者都自我投入了主角的世界，有誰未試過覺得被人忽視，懷材不遇？每個人的心聲，當然得到群眾認同。故事亦發人發深省，值得回味細嚼。

片中劇情緊湊，不經不覺便完場。電影公司深懂宣傳方式，以美女為主打。但其實該名少女在戲中佔戲不多，但當然總比以男主角的面孔招徠高招得多。
