The story is about the life of Marie Antoinette (Kristen Dunst),
the queen of France during the French Revolution. Marie Antoinette
came from the Austrian royal family, and was married to Louis XIV
when they were both young. The film talks about the queen's fate
in the French royal family and the tragic ending of her royal life
(although her and her husband's death was not part of the script).
The film was made in the real Versailles Palace. This is a really
good selling point. I went to the Palace 16 years ago and all the
feelings of visiting this grand palace all came back to me when
I watched the film. I heard some people say how not beautiful Kristen
Dunst is. In this film, nobody can deny her beauty. She is the prime
focus and she did well in her part. All other characters are not
quite important, even the king is not.
From the story of the film, it does not seem like Marie Antoinette
and Louis XVI deserved to be beheaded by the French. I am not a
historian and I do not know the history for sure. In the film, it
is said that Louis XVI decided to support the Americans in fighting
against the British for the American's independence. And with that
the French government became broke and could not feed the French
people. If this is a historic fact, how dare the US government blame
the French for not supporting their military actions nowadays?
The film is not the most entertaining film, but the set itself
is worth all the money of the tickets.
