Diane Arbus (Nicole Kidman) was married to Allan Arbus (Ty Burrell),
quite a wealthy man whose family dealt with fur. Diane assisted
Allan in his business. One day, Lionel Sweeney (Robert Downey Jr.),
who had thick hair all over his body and face, moved into their
apartment building. Diane was interested in Lionel and paid Lionel
a visit. She also wanted to do something she liked, and she started
a project to take pictures with the help of Lionel. As time went
by, the relationship between Diane and Lionel became much closer…
Somehow, I feel it is very difficult to distinguish what is real
and what is imaginary in the film. Is Lionel Sweeney real? I don't
know. In any case, that does not seem to be too important. Kidman
played her role very well in the film. Actually, Kidman was pretty
much the prime focus of the film. Every shot on her was to make
her look beautiful in front of the camera. For more demanding viewers,
this may not be a good thing despite her beauty. I enjoyed those
shots, though. In contrast, Downey was mostly covered with "fur"
in almost the whole film, making him a very small part of the film.
Towards the end of the film, there are two nude scenes of Kidman.
I wonder if that is really necessary for the progression of the
film. In any case, Kidman is good to look at, be in those scenes
or others.
The film is an interesting one. I enjoyed it.
P.S.: The film is pulled from the cinemas 1 week after it is released
in Hong Kong. I do not think it is bad at all. Reader interested
in this film please remember to get a DVD or VCD once it is available
for sale.
