Borat (Sacha Baron Cohen) was sent by the Kazakhstan government
to the US to understand the American culture so that he could come
back with great ideas to improve the lives of the people of Kazakhstan.
But when he arrived at New York, he was fascinated by Pamela Anderson
(herself) and so he convinced Azamat (Ken Davitian), the producer,
to go to California together for the sake of "Amercian culture".
Because of the "cultural differences", a lot of hilarious
things happened.
I am actually quite disappointed. It is not a film to mock the
American culture, but uses the poor country of Kazakhstan, makes
fun of its people, and portrays them as though they are uncivilized
(although in "fine prints" it is made clear that Kazakhstan
is nothing like it). It makes the character Borat an animal, an
amoral person, and an idiot. I do not see any meaning buried in
the story.
Is it fun? Probably. But at the same time, it makes me sick because
of the false portrayal of the people of Kazakhstan.
