The story is about a ruthless teenager, coming from a broken family because of her mother's contraction of HIV, who was changed completely because of accidentally taking away a baby from a woman he robbed.

The film is the winner of Best Foreign Film in Oscar this year. Although I do think that the film is a good one, somehow I do not think that it is the best among all foreign films in the Oscar. The cast did an okay job, but acting would not be considered exceptional. The love of Tsotsi towards the baby was built purely on his childhood experience where the linkage is not that strong. Also, Tsotsi's decision to risk himself to return the baby is not a very wise one. But on the whole, the film is quite touchy and has a lot to tell. One of the issues that was talked about is the spreading of AIDS in South Africa, which Nelson Mandela did not pay attention to when he was the president of South Africa. This links to a lot of present issues in the country.
