The story is about the mother-daughter relationships of three generations. The background is China in the 1940's. The story touched on the issues of single mother, aborption, adoption, and pre-marriage pregnancy, which provoke audience's thinking on these touchy issues. Zhang Ziyi plays three characters for the three generations, allowing her to demonstrate her acting ability. The story is good and worth watching.
