The Ice Age was about to be over and ice around where Manny, Diego, and Sid lived was melting. All the animals were heading to the "ship" to escape from drowning by the melting ice. Manny was worrying that he was the only mammoth left on Earth, and he was delighted to meet a female mammoth Ellie. Towards the end of the trip, Ellie was trapped and Manny tried to rescue her. Later, all animals were about to be drowned...

The story is quite simple and typical for a kid's film story. Unlike the first episode of Ice Age, there are no humans, and teamwork is not the theme any more. Scenes are again seamed together by Scrat's actions with his acorn. All his actions seem to be totally disconnected from the rest of the story but to make people laugh, until the end where his action was vital to the finale of the film.

The theme of the story probably has something to do with the potential disasters that could occur with the current global warming. However, it is extremely subtle and is almost not discernable.

The thing that I admire about is the details of the animation, which is almost as real as real! The hair on Manny and Ellie was especially impressive, just like in the first episode, and probably better.
