相信大部份香港人看完《臥虎藏龍》都會有同一個感覺，就是究竟該片出色的地方在哪裡？為何可以奪取那麼多獎項。這次，李安再次延續此神蹟。一心想知道為何此片又再次攝獲各大獎項的觀眾，恐怕又再一次會惘然步出戲院。

片中描寫兩個基男的感情線不豐富，有點為了發洩性慾才開始其基人生活。及後他們各自正常地娶妻生兒。片中對當時社會不容此等性取向的著墨不多，予人雜交獸行正統化的感覺。或許一向剛烈豪邁的美國牛仔的形象在此片來一個翻天覆地的扭轉，對美國人是何等的震撼。

片中兩位主角由於劇本關係，演譯方法只屬表面，至劇末才有內心戲出現。全片以平實方法拍攝，演員亦不多。若不是冠以李安品牌，還以為是一部低成本製作。

李安他日若厭倦了執導演筒，大可開班傳授得獎策略，因他實在太懂得各大電影評審的得獎準則，就像會考般，只要答案中有齊得分要點，就可得到滿分。
