Dr Lawrence Gordon (Cary Elwes) and Adam (Leigh Whannell) were both trapped at the different corners in a washroom with one foot chained to the plumbing there. At first, they both had no idea why they were there. When they started to receive instructions from the person who trapped them, Dr Gordon believed it was the same criminal who had done other horrible murders where he was interrogated as a suspect. Dr Gordon's task, as assigned by the murderer, was to kill Adam before 6 am. If he could not, both of them would be killed. What could Dr Gordon do?
The film started with the two protagonists talking to each other while tied to the different corners of the washroom. In that scene, both the dialog and acting were mediocre. The dialog sounds like one in a stage drama and the actors so overacted. It makes a pretty bad first impression to me. However, as the story progresses, I started to admire the film. The story on the whole is quite entertaining. The ending was especially great. The film ended with quite an interesting twist, which of course I am not going to tell here.
There is a message in the film. All those who were murdered in some way did not appreciate life. And it was their attitude that the murderer decided to put them into agony and, in many of the cases, death. There was one victim who escaped, and she in some way appreciated what the murderer had done to her. Perhaps this is something that is worth our time to put some thoughts on.
