Eva Rojas (Penelope Cruz) was with the UN WHO serving in Niger. She discovered that some people who visited Mali die of a mysterious disease. She believed it was an epidemic and wanted to go to Mali to investigate. Meanwhile, Dirk Pitt (Matthew McConaughey) of NUMA (National Underwater and Marine Agency), who believed an ironclad which served in the American Civil War was in that area and went for the search with Al Giordina (Steve Zahn). Dirk and Al took Eva to Mali and they continued with their journey. The warlord in Mali wanted to stop Eva from the investigation. Since they took Eva to Mali, the warlord was after them. Later, they found the epidemic was not what Eva expected…

The background of the story is quite an interesting one. Has anyone ever thought that a warship that served in the American Civil War will end up in Africa? Although it is quite a long shot, but the writers did make the cause a reasonable one. The film is quite intense from the very beginning, and is humorous from time to time. That being said, the story is very entertaining from the start till the end. It is possibly not a meaningful film, but if you are looking for entertainment, this film tops a lot of its competitors. The main actors Matthew McConaughey, Penelope Cruz, and Steve Zahn added much life to the film. In sum, it is an entertaining film that will have you satisfied.
