Gunner Palace is the old palace of Saddam Hussein in Baghdad. It had become a camp for the American soldiers after the second Gulf War started. The film documents the lives of a number of soldiers based in that camp, their work, the danger they faced, and their interactions with the Iraqis. The film does not judge whether the Americans' invasion is right or not. It focuses on the troops. From the Americans' point of view, no matter they supported George W. Bush's decision to invade Iraq or not, they wanted their soldiers go home safely. It is from this viewpoint that the film is made. The film actually documented soldiers who lost their lives during the making of the film. Some viewers may have a special feeling about this. Unluckily, there are technical problems with this film. Somehow during the screening, the sound and visual are not in sync, making the film very different to watch. I hope this is more a technical problem of my screening than the film itself.
