The Great Challenge is the sequel of Yamakasi released in 2001 in Hong Kong. Many actors of the group of 7 extremely agile guys remain in the film. However, the crew of "The Great Challenge" is very different from Yamakasi's, and the result is quite different, too.

This time, the 7 guys went to Bangkok for training, where Kien (Chau Belle Dinh) searched his root as the apprentice of his master, and they accidentally stepped into the battlefield of the local triad society conflicts. The French title means "The Son of the Wind", which is a not a bad one for the story but basically ruined the genuineness of the real-life characters. The story is kind of comic where the guys could perform unsuperhero-like but inhumanly agile movements (but no CG was used).

The film is quite intense during its whole 90 minutes. I will not doubt about its entertainment value. However, as I have pointed out above about the in-human agility of the characters, I am a bit disappointed. One cannot serve two masters. I would rather that the characters are superheros or are humans. They could not be real and be so agile at the same time, let alone the existence of the spirit of Kien's master.

So, all in all, I have to grade it just above average. For people who like action films, it is not a waste of time.
