The story is based on the real-life story of Howard Hughes (Leonardo DiCaprio), the legendary businessman, film producer, film director, and aviator. It covers about 2 decades of his life, starting from the filming of the war epic "Hell's Angels" and ending with the investigation for test flight of the Hercules. His affairs with Katherine Hepburn (Cate Blanchett) and Ava Gardner (Kate Beckinsale) were also featured. However, much more was about his TWA business rivaling the then-monopoly of international flights from the United States and his enthusiasm to build airplanes.

The film is long but it is so entertaining that you will not notice it lasts almost 3 hours. The story is also very interesting, considering that the story is true and involves a lot of big names in Hollywood, aviation business, and politics. After watching to film, I spent at least an hour to know the lives of Katherine Hepburn and Ava Gardner, which are an integral part of the old Hollywood.

However, the film is not free from flaws. Continuity and editing are horrible. The characters looked at one direction in one cut and another direction in the following cut, and the characters repeated the same action in consecutive cuts. I wonder why director Martin Scorsese had allowed such mistakes to happen in the film.

In any case, it is still a very entertaining film that most people will enjoy.
