Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) had been fighting crime in New York busily and his special friendship with Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst) was very much in jeopardy. Meanwhile, Peter was doing a product for his class about Dr. Octavius (Alfred Molina), who was researching new energy source in the company of Peter's friend Harry Osborn (James Franco). In an accident, Dr. Octavius turned into a freak with 4 metallic tentacles. He became Doc Ock. Peter wanted not to be Spider Man any more after all that happened to him. Doc Ock made a deal with Harry that he would bring Spider Man (who killed his father) to Harry in exchange for the materials he needed...
In very rare situation would a sequel be better than the first film. In this case, Spider Man 2 is actually better than its predecessor. When I first watched Spider Man, I did not long for the sequel at all. But after watching the sequel, I think it is very much worth my time. This episode features not only CGI, but also the story lines of the relationship between Mary Jane and Peter, and Peter's wish of staying away from fighting crimes. The flow of the story is also much more reasonable. So, it is pretty much unlike the first episode where Spider Man was so almighty and that all the filmmakers were doing was to feed the audience with unlimited number of visual effects. The one thing that I do not like much is the lack of character of the villain Doc Ock whose motive sound to be too "great", but this does not ruin the film much. In fact, I do want to watch the next episode of the series (which will be released in 2007).
