Film of the 28th Hong Kong International Film Festival

The topic of this documentary is the adventures of Jenny (who is a White) and her second husband Kevin (who is a Black), both members of the ANC, in fighting against the former South African government which practiced apartheid. It features interviews with the two main characters and also a lot of people surrounding their lives. The interviews are in English while the voice over, by the German director of the film, is in German. This alone creates quite a bit of confusion for the viewers. Personally, I do not see any compelling reasons why the film should be narrated in German, when the director herself speaks English fluently. One mistake that the film makes is that each interviewee is only introduced once in the film. The next time the same person appears in another segment of the interview, subtitles are not shown to introduce them again. If you miss the first introduction of the person, you will never know who the person is and can never understand the context of what they are talking about. This film is 183 minute long, too long for people to concentrate, especially when you have to switch from listening to English to reading English subtitles. I am quite such this film could have raised my interest a lot more if it is made slightly differently.
