Part III renders a complete coupling among the series by erecting plots in gradually elucidating the crucial details under cross-editing that presents the narrative in different temporal dimensions. This piece-meal approach furnishes salient information for the viewer in revealing the relations among the protagonists and in assembling the whole story. To enhance the magnitude of suspension, the directors precipitate information to create some illusions for the viewer about the background and the character of Superintendent Yeung (Leon Lai) and Shen (Chen Daoming). Nevertheless, the theme in the three episodes together is clear and consistent in expounding the portrayal of the bad guys' fate and in framing a tragedy of a few good men.

The directors also intensify narrative and visual parallelism in comparing and contrasting between Yan (Tony Leung) and Ming (Andy Lau) in this Part III by (1) fully exploiting the externalization of the protagonists intrinsic mediation and (2) manipulating the filmic element of reversed off-screen vocals (ie. Mings vocal on Yans visual and Yans vocal on Mings visual). This episode also comes with very strong visual and sound motifs that run through the 3 episodes: the song denoting the first crossing-path between Yan and Ming; Mings repeated vocals it will be safe after today and his moving figure that simulates sending Morse codes in the second last sequence. The narrative ends with a footage in Part I that repeats the first crossing-path between Yan and Ming.

The series is a rare excellent local product rich in finely fused filmic elements, thematic loadings, and stardom.
