Former actress Mrs Lee (Mariam Yeung) was 40. Her husband (Tony Ka Fai Leung) was having extra-marital affairs. She thought he had girlfriends because she was not young any more. So, she went to Aunt Mei (Bai Ling) who served dumplings made with dead human embryos which is believed to be able to keep women look young. Although the dumplings were working, it worked slower than what Mrs Lee expected. Aunt Mei suggested Mrs Lee to eat the extreme dumpling: those made with embryos of 5 months. Was she going to be young again? What was to happen?
The film is the first one that Mariam Yeung does not take a role of cute woman. Personally, I think it is good move. She is already 30 and should take on roles of her age. I can see that she was giving her best in performing the role. Unfortunately, she does not perform as well as we hope. A lot of her movements look as if she is still 25 while the role is already 40 years old. It also turns out that she looks happy and smiling in many shots, like what she looks like in her previous comedies. Is it her acting or is it my imagination? Probably a bit of both. Although she is not quite successful this time, she has to start somewhere.
The story is a thriller. The chemistry is made quite right by director Fruit Chan and cinematographer Christopher Doyle. Bai Ling's acting as Aunt Mei is also contributed a lot to the film.
In sum, the film is a nice trial by Mariam Yeung and something fresh for the audience. Many of us would find the film entertaining.
