The movie is in a mix of genres resembling "Catch Me if You Can" (Steven Spielberg, 2002) and some jewel theft classics. Its theme is about self actualization, gratification on accomplishment and fraud. The narrative seems to be unrestricted all along the story but is actually restricted. The hidden elements are revealed at the epilogue which presents a little surprise to the audience. Story progression is slow. The costume of Max (Pierce Brosnan), apart from the realistic motivation of building compatibility with the locale of the Caribbean island, is deliberately made wild with his beard and causal dressing to forge a visual differentiation from his long-established Bond image. Yet the presence of Lola (Salma Hayek), Max's sexy and charming girlfriend and companion, out of compositional motivation, dilutes the differentiation and generates an intertextual effect of arousing the viewer in relating her to the Bond girls. The film does not have much violence but sexual scenes (within the limit of Category IIB) are not rare. Apart from the affairs between Max and Lola, the relations between Max and his counterpart (and predator as well), FBI agent Stan Lloyd (Woody Harrelson), are vividly depicted, with some humours. Though not outstanding in terms of stardom, staging, narrative structure and story, the film is a piece of light-themed entertainment for dating or after work.
