The film exposes the ordinary Jackie Chan style martial arts and plain narrative of run-and-catch built around a linear formula of exposition, adventure, climax and resolution. As a mix of genres, it is a sporadic stir of a multiplicity of filmic elements in other familiar movies: graphics enabled matrix-style mise-en-scenes capturing slow-motioned action in fighting; Bean-like comedic staging emphasizing dramatic facial expression and exaggerated body movement (especially Interpol Arthur Watson (Lee Evans)); traditional ancient Chinese martial arts of fighting in treeland; the Buddhish theme of death and reborn in Bulletproof Monk as well as the Tan Dun style drum-beats. Nevertheless the only thing that differentiates The Medallion from Jackie Chan's other films (although it is directed by Gordon Chan) is that the hero may die simply because of being drowned, not to mention the reborn.
