This episode of Golden Chicken 2 talks mostly about Kam's life in 2003. As in the first episode of the film, the ups and downs of Kam is the reflection of the ups and downs of the people of Hong Kong. In this year, SARS broke out in April, followed by protest by half a million in July, opening of the border to people from China, and continued downturn in the economy. The story talks about how Kam survived the year, and how she hoped for the best in the years to come. The theme of the film is to encourage the people of Hong Kong that the bad time would not last forever, but tough people do last.
This episode fills the gaps of the first one in many instances, especially about the identity of given-away son of Kam. You would notice that there are a numbers of shots in the film were actually adapted form the first episode.
The film is generally entertaining and may make a few people cry at the same time. The thing that I do not like about this film is that it seems to okay prostitution. Kam is a lovely character as a prostitute. The good thing about it is that people would pay a bit more respect the girls in the business, but it also seems to suggest that doing business with them is perfectly okay. Sometimes you just cannot have everything.
