Eight strangers were confined in the hypercube. They came from different walks of life, and they believed that they were carefully chosen by whoever thrown them into the cubic maze for their different skills. They later found that the whole thing was related to a company called Izon, but knowing this fact does not help much in freeing themselves…
The film is supposedly a sequel to the 1997 film "Cube", shown in 2001 in Hong Kong, although it does not help much to watch the first episode before watching the second installment. As a matter of fact, the two films were made by completely different people. Cube 2 can be appreciated without knowing what happened in the first one. The background of the two are similar. The first one features moving cube rooms, though, whereas the second one features hypercube rooms, in which the shape has 4 dimensions and the 4th dimension is not time (thus hypercube).
The ideas used in the film probably make no sense to laymen but physicists. In any case, if you just accept the facts presented, it would be easier for you. The film has certain less than perfect aspects that make it less than a classic. Some of the actors acted poorly, and the flow of the dialog is much worse than I could accept.
If you have watched the first episode, you will find that you know more about the background of the "project", but you will still be in the dark as to what is really happening. The third installment, as I heard, is in production. Perhaps this episode will reveal all the secrets of this mysterious project.
