Through the stories of 3 Chinese families which operated Chinese restaurants in Israel, South Africa, and Turkey respectively, this documentary film talks much more about the lives of the Chinese in different parts of the world but also the important historic events of the countries that these families reside in. The film feels a bit like ATV's Stories from Afar series ( 尋 找 他 鄉 的 故 事 ) but does not push any Chinese ideology or made any judgment on the lives of the people filmed. A very interesting events the film talks about is what happened in the South Africa Chinese restaurant family, where a locally born Chinese woman was considered colored while the a Chinese immigrant was considered white, and they almost could not get married under the South Africa law of aparte. I am sure that if you enjoy Stories from Afar, which is one of the most appreciated TV programs in Hong Kong, you will enjoy this film.
