Long before I watch the preview of this film, I have already heard about it. I was hoping that it will be shown on TV, but it is going to be better. The film is going to appear on silver screens in Hong Kong.
Two kids, after playing bowling in a morning in Michigan, went back to school and killed a bunch of classmates and a teacher there: Columbine High School. That is how this unusual documentary got its name. However, the film talks about a bigger and more controversial topic - gun violence in America.
Why 11,000 died of gun violence in America each year, while in other countries of comparable wealth and culture the number is only 2-digit or 3-digit? Was it because of its violent history? Number of guns in civilian home? Not what director Michael Moore thinks. He believes fear/lack of sense of security is the reason. In the film, he presented his point of views, and he was pretty convincing. I know from other sources that businessmen created this lack of sense of security to sell their products. That is pretty true. Where else in the world can you see so many people driving SUV's or ridiculously big vehicles like the Hummer for no practical reason?
This documentary is truly an unusual one. Director Michael Moore played an active role in front of the camera. Not only did he document things in the film, he created things. He even stopped the selling of ammunition in K-mart. Can you believe it? The film is humorous, but also very touching.
Personally, I think fear is the cause of many ridiculous behaviors. The death caused by gun violence is one thing. People fearing losing relationships behave ridiculously to try to "save" their relationships but in the end ruin them and hurt their loved ones instead. Maybe this is a topic that you would want to discuss with your friends and loved ones after watching the film?
I have never seen a documentary this controversial and entertaining and enlightening. I heartily recommend this film to all the people who care about the world and the people around. By the way, have you seen people clapping their hands in the theater after watching a documentary?
