Erika Kohut (Isabelle Hupper) lived with her mother (Annie Girardot) who was controlling even though Erika was not young. Erika was indulged in porn and sadism. Erika, although looked dedicated in her piano teaching career, never wanted her students surpass her. Therefore, she tried hard to deny entry of Walter Klemmer (Benoit Magimel), who was extremely talented in playing piano, entry to her piano school. Because of Erika's talent, Walter fell in love with her. However, she had Walter as her sexual object, and wrote a letter to invite him to do some abnormal sexual behavior with her. He was sick about it, but he later did comply, only when Erika then realized that was much more than she can bear.

Simply put, the film is odd. The film almost ends abruptly. The sick mind of Erika would make you sick, too. Like I put above, there is a lot of piano music in the film, and the music was good. However, there was too much music, making the film unnecessarily slow and long. The film does not explain why Erika was such a person. Is her character derived from the fact that she was old and lonely and being controlled, or her singleness was the fruit of her perversion? You will not know from the film.

The film will be shown in Hong Kong Art Centre only, and you would know the kind of film it is just by knowing that. If you love art films, you may love it. If you like entertainment more than art, it is probably not for you.
