Although this film shares the same name as the low budget independent film blockbuster shown last year, Hong Kong's "Memento" is not quite similar to US's "Memento" in any way. First things first, the story is told forward, not backward. Second, the end of the plot seems to be much more flawful.

The story: A serial killer killed 3 people whose only connection was that they all took part in the production of the same film, and the serial killer always modeled the plots of famous films in his killings. Fan was commissioned to look for the killer with Chow. They got the help of a criminal psychologist Dr Tse. Later, Tse found that Chow was the killer (or so he thought). While Chow was struggling with Tse, Fan came and shot Chow. After some thoughts, Tse found that Fan was the real serial killer (or so he thought).

The story is not bad until the end. Can Fan be the killer? Here are some facts given in a few scenes: Chow was definitely involves; Fan chased the mentally retarded boy Cho, which could be a suspect, in front of Chow (showing it was not a conspiracy among Chow and Fan). Based on these, Fan could not have been the killer. But again, Fan knew where the next killing would take place also suggested she was involved. Well, the scriptwriter needs to think things more thoroughly. Or, perhaps I missed something?

Anyway, the plot is not a simple one. A nice try by the filmmakers.
