Kim Deuk-gu (Oh-Seong Yu), who was brought up in an extremely poor village in Korea and whose mother married a number different men during his upbringing, decided to pursue a career in boxing after he was attacked by a few gangsters. After a few victories, he met his dream girl Lee Kyeong-mi (Min-seo Chae). However, due to her father's opposition, they could not get together, until Kim earned her father's respect in another boxing match. Kim coach arranged a match for Kim to box against Boom Boom from Mexico in Las Veags. Kim had a hunch that either he or Boom Boom was going to die in the match, but that did not deter him from boxing Boom Boom.

The story is kind of plain and old-fashioned (poor -> success -> meet dream girl -> tragedy), but considering that it is based on a true story, it is okay. It is quite pleasant while following the story, although you can expect no surprises from the beginning to the end. The ending is a bit gloomy, though. The story pictures the courage of Kim who fought his way to the top in his own country.
