On the surface, "The Calling" is purely a thriller about the birth and resurrection of the evil (which in a lot of sense mirrored the birth and resurrection of Jesus Christ which happened 2000 earlier than the time of the story). If you only look at the film that way, this film is almost nothing. However, if you compare the story with the Bible's description of the life of Jesus Christ and put some thoughts on it, you would notice that it is a lot about the disguise of the evil as the good in the real world, real time. The evil always disguise themselves as holy and more often than not they do convince their target that they are! In the film, to Kristie (Laura Harris), her marriage to Marc (Richard Lintern) and the birth of his son Dylan (Alex Roe-Brown) were blessings to her; to the general public, the resurrection of Dylan was a holy miracle. Of course, to the eyes of the audience, both were way on the negative side. The question is: How to tell the good from the evil if you are in the situation? The film portrays the general public as ignorant and believed in what seems to be holy (the wit of Dylan and his resurrection) but never challenged that idea. And, Carmac's (Francis Magee) "helping" Kristie to save the world… Just mirror this to the preaching of Osama bin Laden/Omar and Sadaam Hussein to their peoples, then maybe you can understand the message more easily.
