自 以 為 是 萬 人 迷 的 廣 告 創 作 行 政 要 員 歷 馬 素 （ 米 路 吉 遜 飾 演 ） ， 其 虎 視 眈 眈 的 創 作 總 監 職 位 給 新 聘 的 女 強 人 黛 茜 麥 佳 ( 海 倫 亨 特 飾 演 ) 搶 去 。 心 有 不 甘 之 餘 ， 再 加 上 其 大 男 人 主 義 作 祟 ， 決 心 要 令 她 在 公 司 消 失 ； 一 次 家 中 漏 電 小 意 外 ， 令 歷 擁 有 聽 到 女 性 心 底 話 的 本 領 ， 此 特 異 功 能 令 歷 憑 著 竊 聽 黛 茜 的 創 作 意 念 ， 使 其 工 作 上 轉 危 為 機 。 不 過 ， 這 竊 聽 功 能 亦 令 他 知 道 身 邊 女 性 只 視 他 為 一 個 好 色 ， 格 劣 的 衰 人 及 黛 茜 的 工 作 表 現 確 在 其 之 上 ， 因 而 漸 漸 喜 歡 上 她 ， 但 又 對 其 竊 聽 黛 茜 的 創 作 意 念 行 為 深 感 內 疚 ……

連 弗 洛 依 德 在 其 臨 終 前 亦 大 嘆 「 女 人 ， 究 竟 妳 在 想 什 麼 ？ 」 這 問 題 想 必 是 大 部 份 男 士 在 追 求 或 取 悅 女 伴 時 最 想 知 道 的 答 案 。 導 演 蘭 茜 美 絲 藉 著 米 路 吉 遜 擁 有 " 偷 聽 女 人 心 " 能 力 的 角 色 ， 去 諷 刺 女 性 口 不 對 心 的 " 特 性 " ， 因 而 產 生 連 串 喜 劇 效 果 。

米 路 吉 遜 繼 " 地 痞 酒 店 謀 殺 案 " ( The Million Dollar Hotel ) 後 ， 又 再 一 次 接 拍 非 動 作 片 種 ， 明 顯 是 不 想 被 定 型 為 動 作 演 員 ， 此 片 可 欣 賞 其 準 確 捕 捉 喜 劇 節 奏 的 演 出 ， 無 論 故 事 或 他 的 演 出 ， 都 帶 給 觀 眾 無 限 驚 喜 。

海 倫 亨 特 的 角 色 為 " 女 強 人 " 一 詞 作 出 修 改 ， 現 今 " 女 強 人 " 已 不 再 是 情 緒 化 ， 蠻 不 講 理 ， 而 是 果 斷 ， 有 才 能 ， 並 能 接 納 下 屬 意 見 。 不 過 ， 筆 者 認 為 " 女 強 人 " 一 詞 只 是 那 些 技 遜 於 女 士 的 小 男 人 用 來 安 慰 自 己 的 藉 口 吧 ！

雖 然 此 片 標 榜 " 女 人 心 事 " ， 但 海 倫 亨 特 並 未 能 在 此 劇 中 佔 優 ， 因 米 路 吉 遜 的 生 鬼 演 出 實 在 已 成 功 獵 取 了 觀 眾 的 視 線 ， 不 過 她 所 飾 演 的 新 一 代 女 強 人 亦 算 稱 職 。

此 片 的 笑 料 比 比 皆 是 ， 雖 片 長 達 2 小 時 亦 不 覺 沉 悶 ， 尤 其 對 女 性 觀 眾 而 言 ， 定 必 能 發 出 會 心 微 笑 。 唯 獨 故 事 末 段 那 例 牌 " 金 田 一 兇 手 自 首 式 " ， 歷 自 爆 其 過 及 黛 茜 既 往 不 究 ， 有 情 人 終 走 在 一 起 的 結 尾 ， 則 頗 為 一 貫 荷 李 活 愛 情 喜 劇 的 方 程 式 ， 是 為 此 片 最 美 中 不 足 之 處 。

整 體 而 言 ， 此 片 就 剖 析 女 人 心 的 著 墨 不 多 ， 但 不 失 為 一 部 出 色 的 愛 情 小 品 電 影 。

Nick Marshall (Mel Gibson) thinks he is a girl magnet. He is a dominant administrator in the an advertising company and desire to be promoted to creative director. However, a successful businesswoman Darcy McGuire (Helen Hunt) grabs this senior post. He is not only reluctant to face this failure but is also affected by his male chauvinism. He is going to make her quit. He has an electric shock at home, and suddenly he has the ability to read women's mind. He exploits this supernatural power to obtain the creative ideas of Darcy. It turns to a new page for his career. On the other hand, he also knows what the impression of women on him in the work place: that he is lustful, rude and not superior to Darcy. He falls in love with her but feels guilty about taking advantage of her creative ideas.

Sigmund Freud sighed before he died and he said, "Women, what do they really want?" This is a question what most men want to know. Director Nancy Meyers uses the ability of Nicky to criticize the characteristics of women that they do not talk honestly to their partners. This was turned into a lot of comedy pieces.

Other than acting in the "The Million Dollar Hetel", Mel Gibson screens in this non-action film. It is obvious he does not want to be seen only as an action star. He is appreciated as having caught up in his acting skills in comedy. It makes audience a big supprise in terms his performance.

The role of Darcy changes the view of the definition of "career women": they are not emotional or illogical, but decisive and smart. Anyway, I reckon that the term is used as an excuses for incompetent men to comfort themselves.

Although the film emphasizes on "What Women Want", Helen Hunt is not the one to shine because of the excellent acting of Mel Gibson. Anyway she is up to expectation for her acting in her role.

It is not a boring film. There are many comedy pieces in the two-hour film. Especially suited for women, it makes them laugh from the bottom of their hearts. It gets a little bit flawful at the end as Mel honestly expresses his fault to Helen and she forgives him. Happy ending for a couple. It is a standard form of Hollywood love comedy.

As a whole, the film describes the mind of women not so much but it is still a fantastic love story.
