Castella (Jean-Pierre Bacri) interviewed Clara (Anne Alvaro) as his English teacher. He thought she was not interesting enough and did not hire her. Later, when he and his wife Beatrice (Brigitte Catillon) was watching a stage drama with their niece Angelique (Christiance Millet) in it, Castella noticed that Clara was an exceptional actress and began to have some feelings for her. He hired her and finally he revealed his affection with an English poem. Clara thought that he did not know how to appreciate art and did everything involved art just to please her, so she did not like him. Castella gave up to pursue Clara but continue to be involved in art. She finally understood he was an art-lover and began to fall for him.

The film has other threads which are also quite interesting and complete, like the story of Manie (Agnes Jaoui) and Franck Moreno (Gerard Lanvin) and the story of Bruno Deschamps (Alain Chabat). However, there is a common theme in all these threads: prejudice. Clara's prejudice towards Castella's love for art; Franck's prejudice towards his former colleague's (a police officer) ability in catching a wanted man; Weber's (Xavier de Guillebon) prejudice towards his boss (Castella) for not admiring his ability; Castella's prejudice towards Weber's respect towards him... And yes, the story says prejudice often misleads people to the wrong decision. No surprise. But how often do we remember it.

This film, if you can remember, is nominated for Best Foreign Language Film this year (which went to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). It also won numerous other awards. It is no surprise because the script is excellent and so is the cast. The different threads of stories were expressed well even though they as a whole is quite complex. I like this film and I strongly recommend it. It is only shown in Cine-Art House during the Spring International Fair. You have to be quick if you want to watch it.
