Rush Hour II has nothing to do with rush hour but "Rush Hour".

James Carter (Chris Tucker) was in Hong Kong for vacation visiting Lee (Jackie Chan). Meanwhile, the American Embassy in Hong Kong was bombed and 2 people were killed. The police suspected that Ricky Tan (John Lone), the head of a triad society and also once the partner of Lee's late dad in the police force, being helped by Li Hu (Zhiyi Zhang) was involved. Ricky and Steven Reign (Alan King) were opening the Red Dragon Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas so that they could use the casino as a vehicle to launder the counterfeit USD notes they printed. With the help of the stunningly beautiful custom agent Isabella Molina (Roselyn Sanchez), Lee and James managed to stop the continuing of the Ricky's crime.

The first 1/3 of the film follows quite closely the style of Jackie's previous films. As a result, I felt a bit bored, except I appreciated the scene where James walked around Hong Kong and bought a live chicken as a pet which was meant to be eaten. (If you know Hong Kong, you will notice that he walked to places on the different sides of the Victoria Harbour. Not very realistic?!) Thank god the story continued in Los Angeles, and the whole film followed a closer-to-Hollywood style, making it much more interesting. Compared to Rush Hour, I like the sequel more.

The actresses in the film are worth to pay attention to. Zhiyi Zhang is Li Hu (or Hu Li, whatever) who looks cooler than ice. Her appearance is even more attractive than in "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and more mature than in "The Road Home". Roselyn Sanchez, an actress who came from Puerto Rico and a Sandra Bullock look-alike, is also worth to mention. She did not even know English when she began her career in New York, but now she handles the language well and she smells like a future star.
