Next time when you have to work with somebody who is different from you racially, are you going to "remember the titans"?

The story is about an American football team, the Titans, from a newly merged T.C. Williams High School in 1971 (from one school for Caucasians and one school for Afro-Americans) in Alexandria, Virginia and how it makes a difference when people from different race can forget about their difference and join force together. Herman Boone (Denzel Washington) took the head coach's position, leaving Bill Yoast (Will Patton) in the second chair. Because Boone was black, the whites did not like it. However, Boone managed to control and suppress all racism within the team, and continued to lead the team to a 13-1 season, making the Titans the second best high school football team of that school year.

The background of the story of the film is a typical racism, whites vs. blacks film: The two colors could not get along at first and then at least some of the members of the two colors become friends. This one is more extreme, because they actually worked together toward a common goal. Fortunately, it is based on a true story which makes the story credible and appealing. The downside is that, like other similar film, some roles make friend with the other color at the wrong time at the wrong place. Is it the producer not being sane enough or am I too picky?

The film is intense from the start till the end. Perhaps that is the reason why it grossed so much in the US and has been a top-10 film in the US box office for 7 weeks. The football game scenes are pretty well made. They look much better than the high school games on Friday night TV in US. Denzel Washington acted like a real coach, although Bill Yoast had limited opportunities to shine.

Although not a perfect film, I believe it is worth the time and money to watch the film. Do remember to think about what the producer want to say or else you are not getting what you should get. That's right, remember the titans!
