故 事 主 要 分 兩 條 線 ： Rafe 、 Danny 及 Evelyn 的 三 角 戀 愛 ， 以 及 太 平 洋 戰 爭 的 爆 發 。 其 實 ， 這 兩 方 面 的 描 寫 都 不 太 深 入 。 感 情 戲 的 部 份 簡 單 而 且 發 展 完 全 在 估 計 之 內 ， 而 戰 爭 戲 的 部 份 除 了 偉 大 的 戰 爭 場 面 外 亦 只 點 到 即 止 （ 例 如 ： 日 本 軍 方 內 部 的 分 歧 與 及 為 什 麼 空 襲 珍 珠 港 會 變 成 偷 襲 珍 珠 港 都 沒 有 交 代 ） 。 筆 者 覺 得 此 片 所 要 做 的 並 不 是 一 個 愛 情 小 說 （ 誰 要 拍 這 般 昂 貴 的 愛 情 片 ？ ） 或 者 是 交 代 史 實 （ 我 們 不 需 要 另 一 部 《 偷 襲 珍 珠 港 》 ） 。 製 片 要 造 到 的 是 以 感 情 戲 連 繫 兩 場 戰 爭 ， 並 用 戰 爭 的 場 面 帶 給 觀 眾 娛 樂 及 戰 爭 的 感 覺 。 筆 者 覺 得 這 套 電 影 已 做 到 了 。

筆 者 有 點 不 喜 歡 的 是 此 片 有 著 濃 厚 的 大 美 國 主 義 ， 把 日 軍 塑 造 成 大 魔 頭 （ 《 狂 林 戰 曲 》 及 《 偷 襲 珍 珠 港 》 等 電 影 則 對 日 軍 有 較 中 立 的 描 寫 ， 像 " 日 軍 也 只 是 人 " 及 " 日 軍 是 日 本 的 國 家 英 雄 " ） 。 對 於 美 國 方 面 有 部 份 人 想 美 軍 參 戰 而 發 財 的 事 則 隻 字 不 提 。

若 果 你 對 這 部 戲 的 " 理 想 " 是 看 一 部 震 撼 兼 有 娛 樂 性 的 電 影 ， 此 片 應 該 可 以 符 合 你 的 " 理 想 " 。 片 內 戰 爭 的 場 面 火 十 分 真 實 。 有 人 說 片 內 的 特 技 過 份 誇 張 ， 但 筆 者 覺 得 事 實 是 這 麼 " 誇 張 " 的 。 大 家 亦 應 留 意 音 響 效 果 及 配 樂 亦 十 分 一 流 。

The story: In 1942, Captain Rafe McCawley (Ben Affleck) met Nurse Lieutenant Evelyn Stewart (Kate Beckinsale) during a health examination for the air force pilots, and not long after did they fall in love with each other. However, Rafe volunteered to go to Europe to fight in the British Air Force, and he disappeared after his jet fighter was hit. His buddy Captain Danny Walker (Josh Hartnett) took care of Evelyn for him. Evelyn and Danny soon fell in love. At the same time, the US government was planning to impose embargo on Japan because of Japan's invasion into other Asian countries. Before the negotiation between the two governments, the Japanese military was already planning to bomb the Pearl Harbor base of US. The night before Pearl Harbor was attacked, Rafe appeared in Pearl Harbor. After knowing that Evelyn and Danny were together, he was upset. The next day, the Japanese air force raided Pearl Harbor. The US Navy suffered serious damage. Rafe and Danny were sent to attack Tokyo afterwards for revenge.

The story has two major lines: the love affair of Rafe, Danny, and Evelyn, and the breaking out of the Pacific war in WWII. Both were not told down to details in the film. The romance part was very predictable, and the war part was very superficial except for the scenes of the attack of Pearl Harbor (For example, the differences in the Japanese Navy about the attack and why the raid was performed without Japanese's declaring war against the US were not discussed.). I believe the film makers were not trying to make a love story (Who wants to make such an expensive one?) nor to reveal the historical facts of WWII (One great "Tora! Tora! Tora!" is enough). The story was written to link two battles together and the war scenes were made to provide good entertainment and a sense of warfare to the viewers. I think the film is very successful in this sense.

Something that I do not like about the film is that there is a strong sense of Americanism in the film. The Japanese military was portrayed as the absolute evil guys (compare that to the more neutral portrayal of the Japanese military in "The Thin Red Line" and "Tora! Tora! Tora!" which conveyed the message that Japanese soldiers were human too and they were the heroes of their own country). Nothing was said about the Americans who wanted to participate in WWII to get rich.

If your "good enough" is watching an entertaining film, this film is much more than good enough. The war scenes are so real! Some people said the war scenes are exaggerating, but this "exaggeration" was in fact factual. Note that the sound editing and sound effects are also worth mentioning.
