Betty （ Renee Zellweger 飾 ） 是 一 個 在 堪 薩 斯 州 的 侍 應 生 ， 她 畢 生 的 夢 想 是 當 護 士 。 她 喜 歡 主 角 是 在 加 州 一 醫 院 工 作 的 David Ravell 醫 生 （ Greg Kinnear 飾 ） 的 肥 皂 劇 A Reason to Love 。 她 的 丈 夫 Del （ Aaron Eckhart 飾 ） 準 備 賣 一 部 Buick 車 給 Charlie （ Morgan Freeman 飾 ） 及 Wesley （ Chris Rock 飾 ） 於 是 便 請 他 們 到 家 中 。 當 天 其 實 是 她 的 生 日 ， 但 因 為 原 本 跟 她 慶 祝 生 日 的 朋 友 未 能 附 約 ， 她 便 留 在 家 裡 。 那 車 裡 實 有 一 批 毒 品 ， 所 以 Charlie 及 Wesley 要 追 尋 該 車 。 在 理 倫 時 Del 給 Wesley 殺 了 。 Betty 當 時 在 電 視 室 中 看 A Reason to Love 的 錄 影 帶 ， 眼 見 丈 夫 被 殺 ， 在 受 驚 之 際 看 見 Ravell 醫 生 說 話 ， 以 為 那 番 話 是 對 她 說 的 ， 繼 而 把 肥 皂 劇 的 世 界 與 現 實 混 淆 了 。 她 以 為 Ravell 醫 生 是 她 的 前 未 婚 夫 ， 便 駕 著 那 架 Buick 前 往 加 州 去 ， 以 挽 救 那 段 感 情 。 Chris 及 Wesley 隨 即 跟 蹤 ……

這 部 戲 既 是 劇 情 片 ， 又 是 黑 色 喜 劇 。 筆 者 認 為 這 齣 戲 是 其 中 一 部 本 年 至 今 最 好 的 電 影 。 故 事 不 但 惹 笑 ， 而 且 劇 本 亦 寫 得 很 有 水 準 兼 合 情 合 理 。 事 實 上 ， 它 在 康 城 電 影 節 贏 了 最 佳 劇 本 的 獎 項 。 有 些 人 可 能 認 為 Betty 的 行 為 完 全 不 合 常 理 ； 但 事 實 上 ， 這 樣 的 行 為 雖 然 有 點 極 端 ， 但 並 非 沒 有 可 能 ， 尤 其 是 在 像 她 這 樣 的 受 驚 情 況 下 。 電 影 裡 有 幾 幕 是 筆 者 較 喜 歡 的 ， 例 如 Betty 第 一 次 見 到 A Reason to Love 的 幕 後 工 作 人 員 時 及 Betty 到 拍 劇 的 佈 景 的 時 候 的 兩 幕 。

雖 然 Morgan Freeman 的 名 字 被 放 Renee Zellwegwer 的 名 字 之 前 ， 但 大 放 異 彩 的 其 實 是 Renee 。 她 扮 演 Betty 得 十 分 精 彩 ， 而 且 很 有 說 服 力 。 難 怪 她 以 此 電 影 獲 得 金 球 獎 的 最 佳 女 主 角 名 銜 。

喜 歡 好 電 影 的 影 迷 千 萬 不 錯 過 此 片 。 筆 者 認 為 它 是 一 部 「 優 」 的 電 影 。

Betty Sizemore (Renee Zellweger) was a waitress in Fair Oaks, Kansas who always wanted to be a nurse. She liked the soap opera A Reason to Love featuring the character Dr. David Ravell (Greg Kinnear) who was a doctor in a California hospital. Her husband Del (Aaron Eckhart) was to sell a Buick to Charlie (Morgan Freeman) and Wesley (Chris Rock) and they were invited to the Sizemores'. It was her birthday but she stayed home, without being known to Del, because her friend canceled the celebration at the last minute. The Buick was carrying some drugs and that was why Charlie and Wesley were looking for the car. During the discussion, Del was killed. Betty was watching a taped episode of A Reason to Love in the den when she witnessed the killing of her husband. Suddenly, with the shock of witnessing her husband's death, she thought Dr. Ravell was speaking to her and the soap opera becomes her reality. She thought Dr. Ravell was her ex-fiance and so she started to drive the Buick from Kansas to California to save the relationship, and Chris and Wesley soon followed…

This film is both a drama and a black comedy. I think that this is one of the best films I have seen this year so far. Not only is the story very hilarious, the story line is a well-written and reasonable one. The fact that the film won in the Cannes Film Festival Best Screenplay category proved this point. Some people might think Betty's mixing up her life with the story of a soap opera is unreasonable. However, though a bit extreme, it is pathologically possible in a state of shock as such. The scene in which the crew of A Reason to Love first met Betty and the scene in which Betty went to the set of the soap opera were particularly funny and well written.

Is reality a state of mind, as suggested by the slogan of the film? Perhaps not. But what I am sure is that Betty is a much happier person when she was experiencing her alternative reality. In any case, this is an interesting thing to think about: perhaps how we feel about something depends what we believe to be the reality, so our attitude towards the world determines how good we live. Am I making sense?

Although Morgan Freeman's name was placed before Renee Zellweger's, Renee is absolutely the one. Her acting as Betty Sizemore was extremely well and convincing. As a matter of fact, she earned a Golden Globe for her role in this film.

If you like well made films, this is absolutely not a film to miss. I rate it as an "Excellent" film.
