聯 邦 密 探 接 到 罪 犯 " 公 民 " 的 炸 彈 恐 嚇 ， 說 他 會 破 壞 美 國 小 姐 選 舉 。 聯 邦 密 探 於 是 派 出 探 員 Gracie Hart （ Sandra Bullock 飾 ） 作 臥 底 ， 而 隊 長 Eric Matthews （ Benjamin Bratt 飾 ） 則 聯 絡 了 選 美 會 主 辦 人 Stan Fields （ William Shatner 飾 ） 及 Kathy Morningside （ Candice Bergen 飾 ） 以 確 保 Gracie 可 進 入 最 後 五 強 ， 方 便 偵 查 。 姬 絲 頗 為 男 人 婆 ， 需 要 很 多 功 夫 才 可 參 賽 ， 大 會 便 介 紹 Victor Melling （ Michael Caine 飾 ） 作 為 顧 問 。 其 實 " 公 民 " 不 是 幕 後 黑 手 ， 實 際 是 一 個 不 滿 大 會 決 策 人 安 排 的 人 的 所 為 ……

此 片 十 分 惹 笑 ， 比 起 Bullock 的 上 一 套 喜 劇 " 28 Days " 實 在 好 幾 倍 。 （ "28 Days" 沒 有 在 香 港 上 映 ， 只 有 VCD/DVD 供 租 賃 ） 。 除 了 提 供 笑 料 外 ， 製 作 人 亦 想 用 此 片 使 觀 眾 對 選 美 會 （ 或 者 是 獎 學 金 計 劃 ） 改 觀 。 Gracie 最 初 一 如 很 多 人 所 想 ， 參 與 選 美 的 都 只 是 一 些 身 材 好 及 只 懂 說 希 望 世 界 和 平 的 無 知 少 女 。 但 當 姬 絲 跟 其 他 參 賽 者 交 往 過 後 ， 她 發 現 其 實 她 們 大 多 是 聰 明 及 友 善 的 少 女 ， 並 抱 著 可 到 處 體 驗 事 物 及 與 人 交 往 的 心 態 去 參 加 選 美 。 或 許 參 賽 者 所 說 的 （ 世 界 和 平 ） 只 是 迎 合 觀 眾 及 評 判 的 口 味 ， 而 並 非 出 於 她 們 的 無 知 。

Bullock 的 表 演 在 此 片 中 十 分 到 家 。 這 次 她 選 對 了 劇 本 。 若 果 她 再 選 擇 如 "28 Days" 般 差 的 戲 來 拍 ， 可 能 我 們 都 不 會 再 看 到 她 的 演 出 。 比 較 遜 色 的 是 ， 作 為 未 變 身 的 Gracie 探 員 前 ， 她 的 外 觀 不 夠 差 ， 所 以 相 對 地 變 身 後 的 她 其 實 只 有 行 為 上 的 改 變 ， 容 貌 則 差 不 多 。 其 他 的 女 演 員 也 有 值 得 留 意 的 ： 飾 演 羅 得 島 小 姐 Cheryl 的 Heather Burns 及 飾 演 德 州 小 姐 Mary Jo 的 Deirdre Quinn 尤 其 出 眾 。

其 中 一 樣 筆 者 喜 歡 的 是 選 美 會 的 場 面 頗 有 水 準 。 跟 真 的 選 美 會 佈 景 相 比 ， 片 中 的 佈 景 差 不 了 多 少 。 另 外 ， 製 作 人 亦 選 了 San Antonio 城 中 最 美 的 地 方 取 景 ， 如 Alamo ， River Walk ， Majestic Theater ， Alamodome ， 觀 眾 可 留 意 一 下 。

總 括 來 說 ， 此 片 是 一 部 十 分 有 睇 頭 的 喜 劇 。 喜 歡 Sandra Bullock 的 影 迷 尤 其 不 容 錯 過 。

The FBI received a bomb threat from "Citizen", America's most infamous criminal, that he was going to ruin the Miss United States Pageant. To investigate the case, FBI sent Special Agent Gracie Hart (Sandra Bullock) to participate in the beauty pageant, and the lead of the investigation team Eric Matthews (Benjamin Bratt) had contacted the organizers of the pageant, Stan Fields (William Shatner) and Kathy Morningside (Candice Bergen), to make sure that Gracie will be the finalist of the pageant in order to solve the case. As an FBI agent, Gracie would need a lot of work to convince the public that she was qualified for a top-5 position. Therefore, beauty pageant consultant Victor Melling (Michael Caine) was hired to turn Gracie into a beauty. It turned out that it was not Citizen who sent out the threat, but someone who was angered by the decision of the owner of the pageant...

The whole film is hilarious. Compare to Sandra Bullock's last comedy "28 Days" (which was not in theaters in Hong Kong but available in home video), this film is much better entertainment. In addition to providing entertainment to the viewers, the producer also wanted to use this film to change people's attitude towards beauty pageants (or "scholarship programs" as Kathy Morningside put in the film). Gracie thought that the contestants were a "bunch of bikini stuffers who only want world peace". That might also be the case for a lot of people. After participating in the Miss United States Pageant, Gracie had her mind changed with the interaction with the other contestants. The contestant were, in her eyes now, mostly intelligent and friendly people who were seeking a chance to tour the world, to meet a lot of people, and to gain valuable experience (is it not what life is all about?) through participating in these "scholarship programs". How the contestants acted or what the contestants said (world peace!) were to suit the audience and the judges instead of to show their pinheadedness.

Sandra Bullock's performance is good. I believe this time she had chosen the right film to be in. In "28 Days", she was a drunkard who was sent to a rehab instead of going to jail for damaging property while she was drunk. That film was poor. Bad comedy pieces, no story... Had she act in one more film like that then she is over, I think. This film suits her very much as it needs a beautiful actress (and she is) who can act (and she can). The worse part of her role as Special Agent Gracie Hart is that she did not look bad enough for a girl who did not care her look at all. The actresses who play the roles of the pageant contestants were also impressive. Heather Burns (Cheryl, Miss Rhode Island) and Deirdre Quinn (Mary Jo, Miss Texas) are especially worth some attention.

One thing that I like about the film is the set of the beauty pageant. It was almost up to the real pageant stage standard. Compared to other films that involve such contests, its set is the best. Also, the producers had chosen the best places in the city of San Antonio for the activities of the pageant: the Alamo, the River Walk, Majestic Theater, Alamodome... This is another thing that I like.

All in all, this film is a good comedy that I believe most of us will like it. I give it a good to excellent overall rating.
