The identity of Bagger Vance (Will Smith) was a mystery in the film. He could be an angel from heaven. He appeared suddenly when Rannulph Junuh (Matt Damon) from Savannah, Georgia could not gather his courage to take part in a golf tournament organized by Rannulph's former girlfriend, Adele Invergordon (Charlize Theron). Rannulph was a good golfer in his teens. However, after he served in the Army for an operation in which the whole team but he died, he became lifeless. Adele's father invested heavily in his new golf course and committed suicide in the middle of the Great Depression because of the debt he had got into. She wanted to use the tournament to attract people to go to the course to play and get herself out of the debt. Bagger encouraged Rannulph to take part and more importantly helped him to finish the tournament gracefully.

The film did not give me much excitement. Well, how much excitement can golf bring? But still, the story is quite interesting. The film tried to elaborate the feeling of Rannulph who felt he should not be living because he was the lone survivor in the military operation. However, the film did not do enough. The audience might even mistake that he should be happy because he survived. On the other hand, the director was quite successful in making Bagger's character a very special one. Bagger's part look superior. He was always happy. He had no ill feeling when things were not going well. The audience has not doubt that Bagger Vance is the character that we may get something from.
