"Jurassic Park III" is really a success - considering how lousy the film is but grossed over USD160 million in US in 5 weeks.

The story: The Kirby couple, Paul (William H. Macy) and Amanda (Tea Leoni) invited Dr. Allan Grant (Sam Neill) to Isla Sorna (the island where InGen's Site B of the Lost World was situated), to serve as a guide to take them around the island as a "celebration of their anniversary". Actually, their son Eric (Trevor Morgan) was lost on the island as a result of an accident while he was water-skiing. Thinking that Dr. Grant had been on the Isla Sorna, they thought he could help them find their kid. Needless to say, disaster followed. During the trip, Dr.Grant's assistant Billy Brennan (Alessandro Nivola) picked up 2 raptor eggs. So, the pack of raptors followed them and tried to get back the eggs. Of course, some of them were to survive, and they were taken back to the mainland by USAF.

The story is like a fairy tale. The first two episodes of "Jurassic Park" are the type of make-believe films. The stories were carefully planned, the screenplay was nicely written, and the film was excellently filmed. In this episode, everything is a total disaster. The scratched Jurassic Park logo is a sign that the Jurassic Park series is totally ruined, end of life! When Steven Spielberg and Michael Crichton are no longer involved in the filmmaking then you know that it is not going to match the standard of the previous two. However, I did not expect that the story would be so cheesy. And the screenplay was horrible, too. Everybody survived a crash landing? Not even broken ribs? How can you expect a large pack of different kind dinosaurs lying around a plain doing nothing? While velociraptors were born-hunters and they hunted for the sake of hunting, why would they let some of the people go (You can give an explanation but I will still have a valid reason to say that the scene did not make sense, at all!)? And the Navy SEAL trying to evacuate Dr. Grant et al just because Ellie (Laura Dern) got a hint from Dr. Grant that he was in danger? (Who did the filmmakers think Ellie was???) Give me a break! I was not expecting the prince could kiss Snow White awake!

When the first "Jurassic Park" was filmed, Steven Spielberg did not use big stars in the film. He believed in the story and the production. Now it is 7 years later. Sam Neill becomes a more expensive actor and more experienced artistes like William H. Macy and Tea Teoni were used. However, the result is not that pleasing. Neill's acting is less than acceptable (See how awake when he woke up after being hit). Macy is a good actor but he is not the kind that is liked (or hated) by the audience. Leoni kind of lost her charm after cutting her hair short (or does it matter?).

Some people think that the animation is the only thing admirable in the film. I believe even the animation does not deserve the admiration. The movement of the dinosaurs was not quite smooth, even worse than "Jurassic Park". The fight between the T-Rex and the spinosaurus (a man-made dino species) was a better animation scene but it was so short!

When the story, the cast, and the visual effects are all crappy, grossing more than $100M is a miracle. The only reasons why it attracted so much attention are that it is a sequel of the popular first 2 episodes and the expectation for another episode from the JP fans. But with this lousy third episode, Jurassic Park is dead forever. Spielberg and Crichton are not going to make a sequel to a lousy film, and a sequel to the lousy JP3 can only be lousy.
