住 在 德 州 達 拉 斯 的 T 醫 生 （ Richard Gere 飾 ） 是 一 個 婦 科 醫 生 。 他 在 工 作 時 深 受 護 士 們 及 病 人 愛 戴 ， 在 家 裡 為 兒 女 們 敬 仰 ， 在 朋 友 的 心 目 中 是 好 好 先 生 。 在 人 們 心 目 中 ， 他 是 一 個 擁 有 一 切 的 人 ， 但 實 際 上 ， 他 有 無 數 的 煩 惱 ： 妻 子 （ Farrah Fawcett 飾 ） 因 太 受 寵 而 患 了 精 神 病 ， 而 且 與 他 的 關 係 漸 漸 疏 離 ； 小 姨 因 妻 子 有 病 而 搬 來 與 他 家 人 同 住 ， 而 她 又 有 酗 酒 習 慣 ； 女 兒 （ Kate Hudson 飾 ） 正 籌 備 婚 禮 ， 但 仍 對 她 的 伴 娘 " 女 朋 友 " （ Liv Tyler 飾 ） 依 依 不 捨 ； 滿 以 為 新 女 友 （ Helen Hunt 飾 ） 會 為 他 帶 來 希 望 ， 但 她 又 另 有 新 歡 …… 在 絕 望 的 情 況 下 ， T 醫 生 駕 著 車 ， 駛 進 龍 捲 風 裡 ， 被 帶 到 400 哩 外 的 墨 西 哥 境 內 ……

筆 者 在 看 此 片 前 少 有 地 看 了 一 些 互 聯 網 上 對 此 片 的 評 價 。 評 價 有 好 有 壞 。 好 的 有 說 此 片 是 Richard Gere 最 好 表 現 的 一 齣 戲 ； 壞 的 說 故 事 鬆 散 ， 而 美 國 網 友 投 票 1200 票 中 它 只 有 5 分 （ 10 分 滿 分 ） 。 當 筆 者 看 此 片 的 時 候 ， 覺 得 這 些 評 價 都 不 對 。 Richard Gere 的 表 現 算 可 以 ， 但 並 非 突 出 。 故 事 亦 不 見 得 鬆 散 ， 而 故 事 看 來 亦 很 有 趣 及 合 情 理 ， 理 應 不 只 有 5 分 。 可 惜 ， 結 局 簡 直 不 知 所 謂 ： T 醫 生 被 龍 捲 風 捲 走 不 單 沒 有 死 ， 而 且 只 有 少 少 傷 ， 並 且 被 帶 到 400 哩 以 外 。 這 簡 直 是 天 荒 夜 談 ， 令 好 好 的 一 個 故 事 變 得 離 譜 ！ 筆 者 覺 得 編 劇 想 借 這 樣 的 情 節 ， 表 現 他 對 身 邊 的 女 人 的 控 訴 。 在 片 中 ， T 醫 生 曾 說 ； " 女 人 是 神 聖 的 " 。 他 又 說 ： " 每 一 個 女 人 都 有 她 獨 特 之 處 。 " 透 過 這 些 說 話 ， 編 劇 說 出 在 表 面 上 女 性 是 多 麼 好 ， 但 想 深 一 層 ， 女 人 只 是 男 人 的 負 累 。 而 T 醫 生 的 被 龍 捲 風 帶 到 老 遠 的 地 方 ， 編 劇 想 表 達 要 離 開 這 些 女 人 煩 惱 ， 唯 有 在 夢 中 ， 或 是 老 遠 的 地 方 。 但 不 論 編 劇 想 要 表 達 的 是 甚 麼 ， 此 片 不 是 科 幻 片 ， 不 合 情 理 的 情 節 是 要 不 得 。 最 奇 怪 是 ， 編 劇 是 女 性 ……

Dr. T (Richard Gere) was a gynecologist in Dallas, Texas. He was admired by his daughters, nurses, patients, and his friends. In the eyes of others, he had everything. However, he had everything to worry about: His wife (Farrah Fawcett) had mental illness because she was treated too well by every one around her, and she was distancing herself from Dr. T; his sister-in-law moved into his house because of his wife's illness, and she was an alcoholic; his daughter (Kate Hudson) was arranging her wedding but she was still involved with her ex-girlfriend (Liv Tyler); he thought his new girlfriend (Helen Hunt) could bring him new hope out of all his chaos, but she was leaving him... So, Dr. T drove his car into a twister. He was taken to Mexico by the twister, 400 miles away from Dallas...

Before I watched the film, I happened to have viewed some reviews of this film. Some said it was good and some said the opposite. For the praising ones, it was said to be Richard Gere's best film; for the cursing ones, it was said to have an incoherent story, and a rating by 1200 votes said it scores 5 out of 10 only. Not all of these are right. Gere's performance was okay, but not exceptional. The story was not incoherent but quite interesting and reasonable, which should have been worth more than 5. However, the ending was ridiculous: Dr. T being taken away to 400 miles away by a twister, alive?! I think the screenwriter wanted to use the story to show a feeling of dissatisfaction towards women. In the film, Dr. T said women were sacred and every woman was special in her own way. Through these lines, the screenwriter wanted to say that women were wonderful on the surface, but were a pain in the neck for men in fact. For the twister thing, the screenwriter wanted to say that men could only avoid the trouble of women in their extreme fantasies (such as being taken away by a twister) or when they were far away from their women. No matter what the screenwriter wanted to express, this film is not science fiction and things should have been more reasonable. But strangely, the screenwriter is a woman...
