復 活 節 前 夕 ， Cookie （ Patricia Neal 飾 ） 帶 上 她 亡 夫 給 她 的 項 鍊 ， 躺 在 床 上 ， 用 枕 頭 把 頭 蓋 著 ， 然 後 把 自 己 生 命 了 結 。 她 的 外 甥 女 Camille （ Glenn Close 飾 ） 剛 到 她 的 屋 裡 想 拿 沙 律 盤 ， 發 覺 舅 母 死 了 ， 不 但 不 傷 心 ， 反 而 覺 得 這 是 家 中 恥 辱 ， 於 是 與 妹 妹 Cora （ Julianna Moore 飾 ） 製 造 凶 案 現 場 ， 希 望 令 別 人 相 信 Cookie 是 給 人 劫 殺 的 。 與 Cookie 同 住 照 顧 Cookie 的 Willis （ Charles S. Dutton 飾 ） 被 受 嫌 疑 ， 於 是 被 " 關 " 進 拘 留 所 內 。 到 底 他 的 命 運 會 怎 樣 ？

故 事 的 主 線 什 為 有 趣 。 故 事 發 生 在 一 小 鎮 Holly Spring 內 。 在 那 裡 ， 每 一 個 人 都 認 識 其 他 居 民 ， 所 以 鎮 內 的 執 法 方 法 也 甚 為 特 別 。 Willis 被 關 進 拘 留 所 ， 但 因 為 警 方 相 信 不 是 他 幹 的 ， 所 以 連 閘 也 沒 有 關 上 。 其 他 人 也 可 以 自 由 出 入 。 城 市 人 看 起 來 可 能 覺 得 有 點 荒 誕 ， 但 這 與 小 鎮 的 現 實 可 能 相 差 不 遠 。 製 作 人 對 小 鎮 人 的 生 活 有 相 當 的 描 寫 。 筆 者 不 喜 歡 的 只 是 它 的 結 局 對 奸 角 的 懲 罰 太 重 了 。 另 外 ， 故 事 發 生 在 美 國 南 部 ， 但 演 員 都 沒 有 用 南 部 的 口 音 。 在 這 方 面 其 實 可 花 點 功 夫 。

其 實 ， 這 套 戲 什 為 主 流 ， 而 且 很 多 演 員 都 是 大 家 認 識 的 （ 例 如 ： Glenn Close ， Chris O'Donnell 等 ） 。 不 知 為 什 麼 只 在 影 藝 上 演 。 無 論 如 何 ， 筆 者 認 為 這 是 一 部 拍 得 甚 為 出 色 的 電 影 ， 而 且 適 合 普 羅 影 迷 。 各 影 迷 可 以 一 看 。

Right before Easter, Cookie (Patricia Neal) wore her necklace which was a gift from her late husband, laid on her bed, covered her head with a pillow, and shot herself dead. Not long after, her niece Camille (Glenn Close) went to Cookie's home to take a salad bowl and found out Cookie's death. Camille was not sad. Instead, she thought that Cookie's committing suicide was a disgrace to the family. So, she and her sister Cora (Julianna Moore) made the house into a crime scene, hoping that people would think it was a burglary and murder. Willis (Charles S. Dutton), who lived with Cookie to take care of her, soon became the prime suspect and was "locked" in the police station. Was he to be convicted?

The story line is very interesting. The story happened in a small town called Holly Spring. In such a place, everyone knows everyone, so the police executes the law pretty differently. When Willis was being detained, because the police did not believe he was the murderer, his cage was never locked, and all his friends and relatives could go in and out of the cage any time. Sound ridiculous? In a small town, this could be not very far from the truth. The film makers described the living in such a small town pretty comprehensively. One thing about the story that I do not quite like is the consequence of the villain's act. It was too much. Another things is that the story happened in the southern part of America, but the actors and actresses did not use any Southern accent. This could have been something done better.

The film is actually quite mainstream. Also, the actors are pretty well known, such as Glenn Close and Chris O'Donnell. I cannot understand why this film will only be shown in Cine-art House. After all, it is a good film, I believe, and should suit the taste of most film-goers.
