沒 有 宗 教 信 仰 的 瑪 姬 ( 金 碧 辛 嘉 飾 演 ) ， 重 遇 多 年 沒 見 的 妹 妹 珍 娜 ( 安 堤 娜 比 堤 絲 飾 演 ) ， 珍 娜 遺 下 親 生 女 兒 高 迪 ( 荷 莉 絲 頓 高 雯 飾 演 ) 後 便 音 訊 渺 然 。 瑪 姬 視 高 迪 為 己 生 ， 唯 高 迪 不 喜 與 別 人 溝 通 及 一 直 有 怪 異 行 為 。 六 年 後 ， 珍 娜 再 度 出 現 ， 聲 稱 已 找 到 可 付 託 終 身 的 新 黎 明 組 織 教 頭 艾 力 ( 魯 菲 士 央 維 爾 飾 演 ) ， 要 求 帶 走 高 迪 與 她 一 起 生 活 。 瑪 姬 不 肯 ， 珍 娜 逐 擄 走 高 迪 。 與 此 同 時 ， 數 名 生 於 與 高 迪 同 月 同 日 出 生 的 孩 童 離 奇 失 蹤 與 死 亡 ， 前 職 為 傳 教 士 的 警 察 約 翰 ( 占 美 史 密 斯 飾 演 ) 懷 疑 這 些 案 件 與 艾 力 及 其 組 織 有 關 …… 瑪 姬 在 追 查 高 迪 下 落 之 餘 ， 得 悉 高 迪 為 上 帝 派 來 的 使 者 ， 艾 力 為 魔 鬼 的 化 身 ， 艾 力 希 望 藉 著 操 控 高 迪 而 掀 起 了 正邪 之 爭 ……

此 片 幕 後 班 底 不 遜 於 幕 前 演 員 ， 由 " 凶 兆 " 的 麥 斯 拉 菲 監 製 ， " 變 相 怪 傑 " 、 " 蒸 發 密 令 " 的 導 演 卓 克 羅 素 執 導 ， 及 " 飛 越 來 生 緣 " 的 視 覺 特 技 班 底 參 與 完 成 此 片 。 對 於 一 齣 驚 慄 片 而 言 ， 絕 對 是 夢 幻 組 合 ， 但 戲 中 的 驚 嚇 場 面 不多 ， 且 亦 沿 用 一 貫 恐 佈 片 ， 故 作 懸 疑 及 背 景 音 樂 突 然 強 大 來 刺 激 觀 眾 的 視 覺 神 經 ， 從 而 達 到 驚 嚇 效 果 。 然 而 ， 監 製 麥 斯 拉 菲 應 該 知 道 觀 眾 是 會 " 長 大 " 的 ， 沿 用 " 凶 兆 " 式 的 驚 嚇 橋 段 已 再 不 能 震 惑 觀 眾 。

雖 則 此 片 的 驚 嚇 效 果 新 意 欠 奉 ， 但 亦 有 其 值 得 欣 賞 之 處 。 此 片 有 別 於 以 往 恐 怖 片 ， 沒 有 那 不 能 缺 少 的 驅 魔 人 角 色 ， 取 而 代 之 為 警 察 約 翰 的 角 色 可 視 之 為 正 義 之 士 ， 與 邪 教 教 頭 艾 力 那 魔 鬼 代 表 ， 展 開 了 正 邪 終 極 鬥 爭 。 在 瑪 姬 的 協 助 下 ， 約 翰 與 其 他 同 僚 成 功 掏 破 艾 力 的 罪 行 。 現 代 感 極 重 ， 與 以 往 的 恐 怖 片 同 現 實 世 界 脫 鉤 大 相 逕 庭 。

片 中 有 多 場 視 覺 特 技 效 果 ， 魔 鬼 的 造 型 細 緻 但 未 見 特 別 ， 反 而 是 老 鼠 洶 群 而 出 一 幕 確 實 令 人 有 不 安 的 感 覺 。 演 員 角 色 化 妝 方 面 ， 代 表 正 義 的 演 員 多 為 面 孔 和 善 ， 美 麗 ； 代 表 邪 惡 的 演 員 則 古 怪 醜 陋 。 但 筆 者 認 為 ， 現 今 世 界 之 險 惡 ， 在 於 再 不 能 清 楚 辨 認 誰 人 是 魔 鬼 ， 魔 鬼 的 面 孔 往 往 比 常 人 更 為 和 善 ， 又 豈 能 像 童 話 般 旗 幟 分 明 ？

演 員 方 面 ， 隨 著 歲 月 增 長 ， 金 碧 辛 嘉 已 再 難 發 揮 其 性 感 女 神 本 色 ， 轉 而 接 拍 此 類 非 賣 弄 性 感 的 戲 是 她 的 明 智 之 選 。 魯 菲 士 央 維 爾 並 未 能 演 譯 出 邪 教 教 頭 那 攝 人 氣 概 。

荷 莉 絲 頓 高 雯 所 飾 演 的 靈 孩 ， 沒 有 嬌 柔 做 作 ， 看 得 舒 服 之 餘 又 要 驚 嘆 小 小 年 紀 的 她 就 有 這 出 色 演 技 ， 導 演 的 選 角 與 誘 導 其 演 技 是 功 不 可 沒 的 。

整 體 而 言 ， 此 片 已 為 驚 慄 片 寫 下 新 的 註 腳 ， 在 處 理 驚 嚇 場 面 之 餘 ， 亦 要 顧 及 吻 合 戲 中 的 時 代 ， 不 能 " 神 怪 " 大 於 一 切 。

Maggie O'Connor (Kim Basinger) is an atheist. One day she meets her litter sister Jenna (Angela Bettis) who has been missing for ages and have left her new-born baby girl Cody (Holliston Coleman) at Maggie's home and fled away. Maggie treats Cody like her own daughter. Cody does not like communicating with others and behaves strangely. Six years later, Jenna suddenly visits Maggie and introduces to Maggie her new husband Eric Stark (Rufus Stwell) who is the leader of the New Dawn religious organization. They demand taking Cody home from Maggie. Maggie rejects it but they abduct Cody quickly. Meanwhile, several children with same date of birth as Cody mysteriously disappeared and are murdered. An ex-priest and cop John Travils (Jimy Smits) suspects this case is related to Eric and his organization.

Maggie searches for Cody. She eventually knows that God seconds Cody and Eric is Evil's representative. A battle between God and Evil starts when Eric wants to control Cody.

The performance of ones behind the scene are as good as the cast. The film is produced by Mac Neufeld who also produced "Omen". It is directed by Chuck Russell who also directed "The Grinch" and "Eraser". The special effects are done by the same group that did those in "What Dreams May Come". For a horror film, it is a really a dream team. However, there are not so many pieces of horror screens. The film uses typical horror's tricks such as suddenly increasing the volume of background music to stimulate people's nerves. Producer Mac Neufeld should know that audience demand more nowadays. It will not work by using what are in Omen to make people horrified.

Although the effects are not so good, there is still something we can appreciate in the film. It is different from a typical horror for not having a "evil killer". A cop John, who is considered as an honorable guy, replaces that role.

The appearance of Evil is not so special. It makes people feel more uncomfortable when a crowd of mouse rush out. The actors on the good side are all good looking and kind while the others on the evil side are odd. In reality, the case is much different.

Kim Basinger is getting older and is no longer as sexy as before. It is wise for her to change her image not to act as a hot lady. Rusfus Sewell fails to act like an Evil leader. Holliston Coleman plays the role of an extraordinary child which she performs perfectly. It makes people feel comfortable and surprise. The casting and guidance of director is excellent.
