故 事
Story

優 Excellent

It is about a Jew Guido (Roberto Benigni) in Italy during the World War II. Life was surely beautiful at first for Guido. Afterwards, the German suppressed the Jews and put his family into a factory to work like hell with low pay. Guido told his son that the whole thing was just a game and the winner will be awarded with a tank. During that time, the kid believed it was a game, and lived in much less pain than the others. Well, living optimistically has its value, right?

良 Good

Almost all the actors are unknown to Hong Kong people, expect Roberto Benigni who fetched an Oscar with this film. However, they do act pretty well. Benigni's role is convincing that we believe Guido is such an optimistic person both in good times and bad times.

I believe that the film is worth its Oscar. Please note that it is an Italian film in Italian and you have to totally depend on the subtitle to understand the film.
