Malcolm (Martin Lawrence) was an FBI Agent. He and his partner, John (Paul Giamatti), were in a case to trap a prison escapee, Lester (Terrence Howard), and protect Lester's former girlfriend, Sherry (Nia Long), from being hurt by Lester. He was sent to Georgia where Sherry's mother, Big Momma (Ella Mitchell), lived. Because Big Momma left town when Sherry called her, Malcolm, who was in Big Momma's House, took her call and had no choice but to disguise himself as Big Momma. Finally, Lester and Big Momma were both in Big Momma's house...

The story follows two simple formulas: 1) A person pretends to be another person, and could have been busted a number of times in the film, and finally the two persons meet. 2) A cop tries to protect a beautiful lady from danger and then falls in love with the girl. The whole story is very simple and very predictable. Perhaps the story line is not the most important thing about this film. The story is almost nothing. It is just a vehicle to bring forward the tiny little bits of jokes that make it an entertaining film.

The film is not a bad one. Most of the film is interesting despite a few moments that are not quite impressive. The scene where the two Big Momma's meet in the house is disappointingly short. Usually, with such a formula, a similar scene would last around 8-10 minutes, or even longer. For this one, it should be about 5 or so. The producers had not exploited these precious moments of the formula. Martin's speech in the church in the final scene is also disappointing. It was short and unimpressive, and more sadly Sherry was impressed. Clearly the scriptwriter who wrote it has not done his job well.

About the cast. Martin is a very experienced actor who starred in a number of comedies such as Bad Boys and Life. Paul Giamatti also starred in a lot of famous films such as Saving Private Ryan and The Truman Show. Nia Long was in the very famous TV comedy series "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air". The cast is quite strong and the actors have made the film as good as any other actors can.

A very impressive element of the film is the make up of Martin. Martin is slim. Big Momma was huge. When Martin was Big Momma, he looks natural: The skin complexion and his face look very real. I wonder if it feels real when his "body" is hugged or touched.

All in all, this is a fairly well-made comedy. I rate it between average and good.
