Not Miyazaki's best, but still easily the best animated movie of the year. It lacks the simple, delicate touches that so warmed hearts in Totoro. Instead, this movie is very dark and ominous in mood. I actually found some scenes disturbing and I think young children would be frightened. But watching this movie is like having a very vivid, unforgettable dream (nightmare?).
