Synopsis:

The first ever-gay wedding is about to take place in Spain: in reality, it will be a multiple ceremony, where the families of the "boys to be wedded" will all attend.

"Reinas" is the story of six sons, five mothers and a father and what happens to all of them the weekend before the wedding.

And who are the "queens" of this story?

OFELIA, Argentinean, recently arrived in Spain for the "event". She has left her job and has come with the firm intention of moving into the home her son shares with his boyfriend Miguel. However, instead of being sincere, her "victim" attitude will hide her real intentions. Her son OSCAR doesn't dare contradict her, but her future "son-in-law" MIGUEL doesn't think her moving in is such a great idea. This provokes the first big fight between the couple¡K.

MAGDA and her husband own the hotel where the weddings will be held. She has turned her son MIGUEL's "sexual option" into a fruitful business: hotels for gays only. MIGUEL will throw this in her face the same day her chef (and lover) has decided, along with all the other cooks and hotel employees, to go on strike for better working and money conditions. The party is in serious jeopardy and MAGDA will have to make a drastic decision to solve the problem¡K.

NURIA has a delicate problem: she just can't stay away from men. She has a sexual encounter on the train that's taking her to her son NARCISO's wedding, and the encounter is with no one else but her future son-in-law HUGO. This puts NARCISO in a big crisis: should he marry his lover HUGO after he's been unfaithful to him?

HELENA is a judge, and she will be the one to perform the gay weddings, among which are her son HUGO and her future son-in-law. However, HELENA has a problem with homosexuals: her husband came out of the closet two years ago, and since then, she just can't cope¡K

REYES is single and rich. For the latter reason she is very resistant to her son RAFA's wedding, who is going to marry her gardener's son. And what she really can't stand is that the gardener feels the same as she does: why does his son have to marry some rich mama's boy? REYES though will find out during the weekend that the line that separates her from her gardener is shorter than she could have imagined¡K.

And also there is a cop, a robber, a rain of fish, an abandoned dog, a man dressed as a tennis player, a woman in a bathrobe, a chef in love, a heart attack, a fall from the stairs, an accidental shot, a shrink, a black-out, a bachelor party, and the queen of the night¡K

Short Synopsis

QUEENS is an hilarious, touching and contemporary ensemble comedy that finds five headstrong mothers coping with the personal family conflicts surrounding the impending marriages of their gay sons.

As these five very different women deal with their own desires, prejudices and history they attempt to survive the weekend as sex, anger, bigotry and love hilariously clash in this ultimate wedding film about the strength of love and the importance of family.
