智沅是一名患有失憶症的病人，就讀社會學系，正當她決定放棄尋找自己過去，一切從頭開始之際，周邊發生了離奇怪事，令她再次對自己的過去產生莫大好奇，因而想盡辦法尋回記憶。然而腦海中只有一些模糊印象做線索．．．

「我的Band5男友」金荷娜首度演出恐怖電影
在韓國紅透「公仔箱」的金荷娜，自98年正式投身影視界以來，演出角色大部分以野蠻攪笑及可愛為主，主演作品包括《再見六月》、《K醫生》、《冰雨》和《我的Band5男友》等，表現備受讚賞。現年27歲的金荷娜，憑與韓國首席型男權相佑合作主演的《我的Band5男友》，飾演性格戇直又野蠻的補課教師，形象深入民心，加深亞洲影迷對她的認識。
今次她接拍《猙靈》，除了對電影劇本情有所鍾，認為有別於一般恐怖片之餘，她亦希望透過今次演會，一改以往可愛的「傻大姐」形象，將自己精湛的「認真」展現銀幕，希望演技獲得認同。
柳振躍進大銀幕
初出道時曾獲多個新人獎殊榮的柳振，與金荷娜早於98年已合作主演韓劇《羅曼史》。今次柳振首次參與電影演出，即當上男主角，加上再度與荷娜合作，拍攝工作可謂駕輕就熟。

在《猙靈》飾演女主角智沅同學的4位女同學，驚嚇演技備受讚賞；而她們飾演的角色在戲中死亡或失蹤的因由，都是跟水有關的。

在電視處境喜劇中的傻大姐角色的李韻之今次飾演反叛女學生，後來患上精神病的病人；她在電視及電影演出簡直判若兩人，演技備受讚賞。
全喜彬－銀淑
由歌唱界轉向銀幕發展的另一位新人全喜彬，她飾演的角色銀淑在拍攝時吃了不少苦頭。不熟水性的她，在拍攝一場遇溺戲時，喝了不少溪水，之後更連續嘔吐了三日。
全希珠－柔貞
電視廣告模特兒的全希珠，她跟全喜彬飾演的銀淑在戲中尤如一對孖公仔，同時死於溺斃。
韓國最有前途新進導演執刀
今次執導電影《猙靈》的是30歲的導演金泰景，畢業於「中央大學」，他自小對電影工作十分鍾愛，曾經執導過《Pianissimo》、《Hypnosis》、《Silence》和《Homework》等四部短片作品。今次自編自導《猙靈》，雖然是「初哥上場」，但他的傑出表現，如對燈光的執著或場景的配合等，都深受當地影評人士讚賞，更被譽為「最有前途新進年青導演」之一。
無血恐怖
說到恐怖電影，很多人都聯想到血淋淋的駭人場面。而今次在《猙靈》中，導演沒用過一滴血的場面去營造恐怖氣氛，取而代之的，卻是無色、無味、無臭兼與人息息相關的「水」，作為《猙靈》恐怖營造的藍本，這種效應尤如鈴聲在《午夜凶鈴》發揮的恐怖作用，受到鬼迷的角色都有種生不如死，令觀眾產生無名的恐懼。比起過往傳統以血來製造的恐怖場面，是一個非凡及大膽的恐怖新慨念！
這種恐怖氣氛亦有賴攝影師及燈光師的氣氛營造，攝影師閔翁式以長短鏡頭交替，以展現一種恐怖發展過程，同時利用搖鏡捕捉角色的不安狀態。燈光師南振亞用上紅、藍色為主色，加強光暗反差以營造角色的恐慌心理。
怪事連篇
每每在拍攝恐怖電影期間，很多懾人的鬼故都會從四方八面傳出來，有些人會信以為真，亦有些人認為這些只是宣傳技倆。而在拍攝《猙靈》期間，接二連三的恐怖怪事亦相繼發生，令所有演員及工作人員都感到不安，幸而最後整個拍攝工作能順利完成，大家才鬆了一口氣！
（怪事一）攝影師撞鬼
《猙靈》拍攝每每至通宵達旦，一位女攝影師和一位女工作人員到拍攝場地附近事先準備好的住宿休息，當工作人員於早上醒來後，竟發現攝影師的身旁躺了一位長髮女子，最初她以為是其他工作人員因太疲累而隨便「孖舖」，豈料眾人一起吃午飯時傾談之際，才發現根本無人睡過在攝影師的身旁，霎時嚇得她大叫起來！誰不知過了幾天，當該名攝影師於起床後往洗手間梳洗期間，再次在光天化日下目見長髮女鬼，今次令這位攝影師的精神大受打擊，在拍攝完該組戲後立即請辭，惹來其他工作人員議論紛紛。
（怪事二）連場火警
在拍攝泳池場景期間，剛剛拍完一組戲小休之際，突然發生火警，整個場景毀於一旦；最初工作人員以為火警是因電線短路而引起，後來警方到場調查才發現火警極有可能是人為的，調查過程雖然繼續，但仍未有任何頭緒。另一宗火警則發生於拍攝工作的最後一天，當時一名撰稿員在一個顯示器旁工作時，顯示器突然發生離奇爆炸，幸而他只受了輕傷。接連火警原因未明，令工作人員情緒不安，幸而《猙靈》最終仍能大功告成，大家都可「還得神落」！

The first memory: Friends
I'm MIN Ji-won, a sophomore studying sociology. That was me when I came to. Amnesia… Having no recollection of my past, I wanted to be happy so that I decided to live as MIN Ji-won. But my life turned into a total mess when Yu-jung showed up. At this very moment, I couldn't be more confused.
The Second memory: Nightmares
Nightmares torment me every night. Thrown into a strange place, I find myself standing with strangers. Who are these people? Where am I? Why do they torment me?
The third memory: Water
I see a ghost. Seen only through my eyes, nobody else's, it's definitely a ghost. Soaked to the bones, dripping water, she follows me around, which is so frightening. Is it watching me from somewhere as I speak? If so, why me?
The fourth memory: Deaths
Eun-seo, Yu-jung, Mi-kyung… All of my friends are dead. There was water on the floor where they were found dead. The police can't pinpoint the exact causes of their deaths. Why do they look as if they had drowned inside a building? The thought of me being the next victim is unbearable. What should I do now? I feel as if I were playing hide-and-seek without knowing who is "IT".

In <My Tutor Friend> released in 2003, she succeeded in breaking out of the image of being a pure, fragile woman. <The Ghost> was a challenge that she didn't mind taking on, so as to expand her horizons. Her talents well approached in her previous work such as <Ditto> and <My Tutor Friend>, <The Ghost> will surely prove the depth of her talents.

SHIN Lee, as Mi-kyung
She's been playing comic characters in such films as <Sex Is Zero> and <The Greatest Expectation>. However, her choice of character takes on a whole new direction in <The Ghost>. She plays a psychological patient who holds the key to the mystery.
JEON Hee-ju, as Yu-jung
She got into the entertainment business as a model for TV commercials. After a few drama appearances, she makes her debut playing Ji-won's friend in <The Ghost>.

KIM Tae-kyung is a young director with an open mind. Though <The Ghost> was his directorial debut, he was far more professional than any other director on the set. Unlike so many other directors whom have tasted failure at horror films, he successfully produced one that has a direct horror, sophisticated visuals, and a shocking twist.
Horror Points of <The Ghost>
Not a single drop of blood in the film!
An indispensable factor in horror films, blood is often used as a medium to strike terror in the minds of the audience. However, not a single drop of blood is used in <The Ghost>, but water is used instead. From the drowned bodies with bloodshot eyes, to the image of water creeping upon the characters upon their deaths, water drives the audience into the state of terror and confusion. In <The Ghost>, colorless, odorless water stimulates our senses far stronger than blood ever could.
KIM Ha-neul's first horror film!
Up until now, most stars, due to their gore and negative aspects, haven't welcomed horror films. However, it wasn't the case for KIM Ha-neul. Being one of the most famous young actresses in Korea, a heroine of a smashing box-office hit <My Tutor Friend>, she took on a leading character in <The Ghost>, which is her first shot at a horror film, creating a new image for herself. She's one of few actors in Korea who keep a balance between commercial success and film qualities.
Couldn't-be-more-realistic dying acting!
A number of new faces star in <The Ghost>, delivering their characters better than veteran actors. NAM Sang-mi proved her talents once again in the film. JUN Hye-bin had to vomit water for 3 days for one scene. SHIN Lee did a marvelous job playing a psychological patient. LEE Yun-ji showed a complete image of herself that everybody is familiar with from a sitcom. Each and every one of them did their best playing opposite KIM Ha-neul who played the leading character. Their marvelous acting will show the audience everything they could expect from horror films.
Terror given through water
Terror is maximized when things or space that we're used to become the object of terror, like a videotape from <The Ring> or a cell phone from <Phone>. For movie producers, it must be attractive to make horror films out of things that we are used to and take for granted, such as water in <The Ghost>. Water has both positive and negative images to it. The first is that it's what keeps life. The latter is that it derives an urge for suicide from those in trouble. Thanks to the great acting delivered by the cast and ever-developing computer graphic technologies, water will provide the audience with terror that they've never seen in any other Korean film before.

The stylish, sophisticated visuals captured in <The Ghost>
Cinematographer, MOON Yong-sik
Horror and sensation are two extremes in the film. But I thought I could capture both, because <The Ghost> has a well-constructed plot that strikes the right chord. Based on that thought, I tried to balance between long shots and close shots. Close shots served to deliver spontaneous horror, while long shots were to let the audience look into the story in their own perspective. I also used a hand-held technique, which is shaking the camera hard, to reflect the characters' psychology facing death, so that the audience could feel as if it were actually happening to them.
Gaffer, NAM Jin-ah
Most gaffers prefer using blue or red lights, but I focused on the contrast between the light and darkness. This contrast works very well for the characters trembling out of fear, or to inflict suspense on the audience getting ready to scream. Especially for Ji-won's house that gives off a grotesque sense, I used aqua blue filters to maximize the effect. And, for non-horror scenes, I used soft, delicate lights to stress the individuals' characteristics.
Bizarre Incidents
On March 2003, on the set of <The Ghost>, shooting the climax where Ji-won (starred by KIM Ha-neul) faces the Ghost, weird rumors ran wild among the crew.
March 7, 10 a.m.
Having worked overnight, a still photographer and a making cameraman, both females, went to bed in the morning. Waking up around 10, the still photographer looked aside and saw another woman sleeping facing the making cameraman. She thought this woman was one of the crew and went back to bed. However, she was shocked at breakfast to hear that none of the crew slept in that room, but herself and the making cameraman.
March 10, 10 a.m.
Feeling under the weather, the making cameraman slept in. Waking up from a nightmare, she couldn't go back to bed so she decided to wash up and head for the set. However, as she was about to step out of the bathroom, she saw something white passing by. Terrified at what she saw, she ran out of the room, half-hearted, crying out of fear.
March 10, evening
After the shooting was done for the day, having so many bags to carry, the making cameraman got a ride with one of the crew. The driver was shocked as the making cameraman asked him why he left the rear door open, as she got into the passenger seat. The very same rear door had been broken for a long time and never opened. Rumors ran rapidly about the ghost wearing jeans appearing around the making cameraman. Suffering from nightmares and emotional stress, the making cameraman decided to leave the crew after the whole set production was over.
Unsolved Mysterious…
In the early morning of March 15, a fire broke out at a pool set. By the time the crew got to the scene, the whole set was burnt to ashes, including the lighting materials in it. The crew suspected a short circuit in the lighting materials in the pool to be the cause of the fire, while the police mentioned the possibility of arson. Damage due to the fire reaching $300,000, the crew were thankful that nobody got hurt. The fire is still under investigation, and the exact cause still remains unknown.
And… Another incident
March 29, Residential area
By the time the fire at the pool set was forgotten, a monitor blew up all of a sudden. The scriptwriter, who was sitting right next to it, screamed out of shock. Hearing the scream, the assistant cameramen came running to put out the fire, only to end up getting electrocuted. He was hurried to a close hospital to be checked out. The injury wasn't serious, but the incident was ominous enough to make the crew nervous. As unexplained things kept happening, the crew started suspecting the existence of a ghost, to which nobody has an answer.
