故事簡介
朝鮮王朝時代，社會深受著儒家思想薰陶，但是一名文武雙全、風流倜儻的貴族出身風流書生趙遠(裴勇俊飾演)，卻與它背道而馳，寧棄高官厚祿，亦要過著荒淫無度的靡爛生活。

趙遠的表姐趙氏夫人 (李美淑飾演)外表是一個堅守婦道、嫺淑溫柔的貴婦，對丈夫忠貞不二，可是她骨子裡卻是一個淫婦，喜歡背著丈夫與其他男人享受魚水之歡。趙氏夫人深知趙遠也是同道中人，本想教唆他色誘其丈夫的新姨太太，豈料趙遠卻有興趣誘惑挑逗被皇上下賜"烈女門"(貞節牌坊)而守節逾九年的貞節婦女淑夫人 (全度妍飾演)。

淑夫人認為男女授受不親，對趙遠異常避忌，可是愈是避忌，趙遠愈死纏爛打，為了將冰山劈開，除了甜言蜜語扮情痴，更不惜變造「英雄救美」，攫取淑夫人的芳心．．．．．．

法國原著改編
《挑情寶鑑》是導演李在容花了五年的時間拍攝，題材源自法國小說家Choderlos de Laclos的著作「危險關係」，這部小說曾於1988年被拍成荷李活電影《孽戀焚情》。有別於《孽戀焚情》，《挑情寶鑑》的背景設於韓國的朝鮮時代。為求完美，導演不惜工本,，服飾考究之外，道具亦要精挑細選，場景當然是重新搭建，當中包括投入4億多韓圜設置的士大夫家內堂，荷塘飄花，古樸神秘。

2003年三大最賣座電影
《挑情寶鑑》上映時即成為全韓國街頭巷尾的熱門話題，怪不得開畫兩天的總入場人次，已高達323萬人，並連奪韓國兩周電影票房冠軍，總入場人次達三百三十萬，成為2003年韓國三大最賣座電影。《挑情寶鑑》更被獲邀請參加三月舉行的「第五十四屆柏林國際電影節」參展。

裴勇俊亞洲人氣稱冠
31歲的裴勇俊縱橫電視圈十年，經常架著眼鏡，給人溫柔斯文的書生形象的他，拍過不少高收視的電視劇集，包括《情定大飯店》、《冬日戀歌》等，是亞洲人氣稱冠的韓星，有「韓國天王」之稱。

裴勇俊為求突破，首次進軍影壇，並擔正大旗，在《挑情寶鑑》飾演趙遠一角。裴勇俊在接受韓國媒體訪問時曾說：「我被趙遠這個人物迷住了。他才藝出眾，詩、書、畫和刀術件件皆能，但拒絕當官、選擇生性風流。他還很有幽默感。

由於片中有大量床上戲，有報導指裴勇俊為了展現出充滿男性魅力的結實身材，勤到健身中心操練的結果，一口氣減了七公斤。裴勇俊為了深入探討角色性格，他細味劇本更閱讀原著，經常跟導演及資深演員討論每一個細節，裴勇俊務求在電影處女作有煥然一新的演出。結果觀眾對他的演技好評如潮，他亦憑此片獲得韓國青龍獎最佳新晉男演員，實至名歸。

全度妍
全度妍於九十年代出道，早年以演出電視劇為主。於1997年，她和韓石圭合演《傷心街角戀人》取得成功，在電影圈站穩陣腳。及後參與拍攝了不少電影，包括《快樂到死》、《求偶一支公》等。全度妍演技精湛，戲路縱橫，除了在1999年獲韓國青龍獎最佳女演員，亦曾被電影雜誌<Premiere>、<Weekly Entertainer>選為韓國最佳女演員。

李美淑
李美淑是韓國資深女演員，早於1980年出道參與電影演出，在八十年代大放異彩。1987年拍過《 Love Triangle 》後，突然決定急流勇退。於1998年，李美淑毅然復出，接拍李在容的《婚外初夜》。之後陸續拍了不少電影和電視劇，再度活躍於幕前演出。

38歲的李在容畢業於韓國外文大學，曾拍過不少獨立短片，首部電影是《婚外初夜》，接著是《純愛譜》。《挑情寶鑑》是他第三部電影作品，亦是至今他個人最叫好叫座的代表作。

Human desire could never be suppressed completely, no matter how repressive the rules of Confucianism and patriarchy might have been. Although "Untold Scandal" is set in conservative 18th century Chosun, the story that unfolds does not feel archaic, but current and sophisticated. The main characters are the progressives of their era, the "next generation" of the Chosun dynasty, who live by their own rules. Their daring games of affection unfold as the tension rises and the stakes grow bigger in their struggle over emotional hegemony.

Just the mere fact that BAE Yong-jun, the top star of the moment in television and commercials, has joined established mega movie stars LEE Mi-Sook and JEON Do-Yeon is enough to put "Untold Scandal" in the news. The fact that they play distinctive, fascinating characters of the lothario, the seductress, and the chaste widow, respectively, makes it the most anticipated film of the year.

First, BAE Yong-Jun undergoes a drastic transformation to become the charming libertine that no woman can resist, throwing off his trademark glasses and donning a topknot. JEON Do-Yeon, who is known for her portrayals of strong-willed, outgoing and adorable women, perfectly embodies the Confucian feminine ideal as the purest woman in Chosun who remains faithful to her dead husband. Rounding out this stellar cast is LEE Mi-Sook, whose performance as the title character in the historical drama "JANG Hee-Bin" almost twenty years ago established the standard against which all screen vamps are measured. She sinks her teeth into the role of Chosun's greatest temptress as only she can, showing off her incomparable charisma and allure.

Director E J-Yong and Production Designer JUNG Ku-Ho, the team that proved its extraordinary visual flair in "The Affair"(1998), have come together again to re-create the fashions and culture of Chosun dynasty's ruling class in sumptuous detail. The era's nobility were accustomed to such extravagance that one elaborate headdress for women could cost as much as a house. Starting with a solid foundation of thorough research and authenticity, the filmmakers added a dash of their inimitable imagination to create beautiful, sophisticated costumes and sets that will dazzle audiences. Until now, Korean historical dramas were dominated by quaint folk tales or power struggles in the royal palace. "Untold Scandal" explores the fascinating lifestyle of Chosun dynasty's upper class, hitherto largely overlooked in popular entertainment. Even the most insignificant everyday item will be beautifully realized for the first time ever on the big screen.

4. Fun and provocative: a fresh take on the eternal battle of the sexes

Torrid scenes are only to be expected in a story that features two of the most successful seducers of an era, but such episodes are not merely erotic in nature, but convey a playfulness that allows the audience to participate in and enjoy the games that are going on. For instance, audiences will undoubtedly be entertained by the variety of tactics that Jo-won, the biggest player on the scene, uses to seduce an astonishing array of women-from courtesans to other noblemen's wives. LEE Mi-Sook as noblewoman Lady Cho, respectable on the surface but a voracious man-eater in her spare time, manages to create fireworks and maintain a sexual tension with without explicit sex scenes. In contrast, JEON Do-Yeon's virtuous widow, Lady Sook, stubbornly resists Jo-won's determined advances before finally exploding in a powerful emotional display. The end of the Chosun dynasty-a period when rigid Confucianism clashed with encroaching new beliefs.

Lady Cho is a brilliant woman who mastered the classics on her own, and she resents the limited life she must lead as a woman. A devoted wife on the surface, she secretly entertains herself with sexual conquests.

On the other hand, her younger cousin Jo-won is accomplished both as a scholar and in martial arts, but rejects a high government post as if he disdains the hierarchical and patriarchal conventions of the time. He indulges in the pleasures of the flesh with as many women as he can seduce. Lady Cho was his first love, and they become co-conspirators in a high-stakes game of love and intrigue while hiding their true feelings for each other.

One day, Lady Cho asks Jo-won to deflower the innocent young Soh-ok, who is to become her husband's concubine, but his attentions are elsewhere: Lady Sook. Graceful and aloof, Lady Sook lives according to her convictions as a Catholic. Jo-won becomes obsessed with seducing her, a woman who has remained chaste for nine years since her husband's death. However, it proves to be more difficult than he expected when Chosun's greatest playboy sets out to conquer the most virtuous woman in the land…

Though adept in the scholarly arts of poetry, calligraphy and painting, Jo-won rejects a life in government for a hedonistic life full of women. The most charming rake in all of Chosun seduces the ladies with his honeyed words, sharp wit and forceful personality. It is impossible to hate this calculating and ruthless philanderer because, deep down inside, he yearns for true love. He forms a secret alliance with his first love, Lady Cho, and turns on all of his intense charms and sexual magnetism to pursue the virtuous widow Lady Sook.

"Jo-won is fully qualified for a government post but rejects it for a life of freedom, indulging in the pleasure of women. The way that he pursues his own lifestyle no matter what the rest of the world says is quite similar to the tendencies of the present generation. I'm certainly making a huge change from my sensitive image from past television series, but I really enjoy revealing different aspects of my personality. I hope to be seen solely as my character Jo-won in the movie instead of my image as actor BAE Yong-Jun."

"While shooting 'The Affair,' E J-Yong told me about 'Untold Scandal.' I instinctively felt that no one else could play the character of Lady Cho. In the context of the period, Lady Cho would have been seen as a wanton woman, but I think in today's point of view, she could be seen as a daring, admirable woman who was born in the wrong time and never got the chance to fully utilize her talents. As filming continues, I think of her more and more as an extraordinary woman."

"I've played a lot of strong characters in the past, but I've always wanted to play a woman like Sook, who appears tranquil on the surface but has a lot of fire and passion inside. Her love is pure, and she takes dangerous risks as a woman of her class for this love. I've been completely charmed by her personality, the way that she is deceptively weak on the outside but strong as steel on the inside."

"One day, when I was listening to some Baroque music, I wondered what kind of dissonance would occur if that kind of music appeared in the background of a Korean historical drama. In most period dramas, you would hear traditional stringed instruments like the kayagum, or see broad humor in the style of folk characters like Bang-ja, stories about power factions in the palace or a wronged woman's lamentations, that kind of thing. I wanted to break out of the clichés and create a historical drama that was more stylish and sophisticated, visually and narratively, than movies set in contemporary times-like classic foreign films. 'Untold Scandal' is basically a love story, but it will be a unique amalgam of elegant eroticism and a new perspective on Chosun culture." Quoted from the director.
