The Butterfly Effect
Butterfly Effect ?
Butterfly Effect?

Story OutLine:
Evan Treborn (Ashton Kutcher) has lost track of time. From an early age, crucial moments of his life have disappeared into a black hole of forgetting, his boyhood marred by a series of terrifying events he can't remember. What remains is the ghost of memory and the broken lives around him - the lives of his childhood friends, Kayleigh (Amy Smart), Lenny (Elden Henson) and Tommy (William Lee Scott).
Throughout his childhood, Evan was under the care of a psychologist who encouraged him to keep a journal, detailing the events of his day-to-day life. Now in college, Evan reads from one of his journals and finds himself thrust suddenly, inexplicably back in time. He comes to realize that the notebooks he keeps under his bed are a vehicle by which he can return to the past and reclaim his memories. But these recollections only leave Evan feeling responsible for the damaged lives of his friends, most crucially that of Kayleigh, his childhood sweetheart who he continued to love into adulthood.
Determined to do something now that he was incapable of doing then, Evan purposely travels back in time, his present-day mind occupying his childhood body, in an attempt to re-write history and spare his friends and loved ones these traumatic experiences. By altering the events of the past, Evan hopes to transform the present.
But every time Evan changes something in the past, he returns to the present to find that his actions have unexpected and disastrous consequences. Try as he might, he can't seem to create a reality that allows he and Kayleigh to live "happily ever after."
About the cast:
Ashton Kutcher
Already well known for his series-lead role as Michael Kelso on "That '70s Show" for Fox, Ashton Kutcher has established himself as a leading man on the big screen with box-office hits like 20th Century Fox's Dude, Where's My Car and Just Married.
He is an executive producer and co-creator of the hit MTV show "Punk'd," a hidden camera show in which he and his cast of pranksters "Punk" celebrities. Kutcher is currently in development on the feature Guess Who's Coming to Dinner as well as some other projects for both film and television.
Kutcher was born and raised in Homestead, Iowa (population: 100) where he lived on a farm with his parents, older sister and twin brother. After being discovered by a local model/talent scout, Kutcher moved to New York to pursue his interest in acting.
Amy Smart
Amy Smart recently co-starred with Christopher Walken, Andy Dick, Maura Tierney and Kevin Corrigan in Scotland, PA, a re-telling of Shakespeare's "Macbeth," set against the unlikely background of a fast-food eatery in the early 1970's. Smart co-starred opposite Breckin Meyer and Tom Green in the DreamWorks' feature Roadtrip and appeared in the ensemble feature comedy Rat Race, directed by Jerry Zucker. She will next be seen opposite Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller in the highly anticipated Starsky & Hutch.
Smart heated up the small screen as Noel's love interest on the WB's "Felicity" and was also seen in the NBC miniseries "The 70's," which chronicled the lives of four young people, forever intertwined, after witnessing the Kent State shooting of 1970.
Smart's additional film credits include Miramax's Outside Providence, with Alec Baldwin and Shawn Hatosy, Paramount's Varsity Blues opposite James Van Der Beek, Starf*cker with Loren Dean, Starship Troopers and The Last Time I Committed Suicide.
About the filmmakers:
Eric Bress & J. Mackye Gruber (Screenwriters/Directors)
Native New Yorkers, Eric Bress and J. Mackye Gruber met in 1994 while Gruber was graduating USC Film School. Bress had recently moved to Los Angeles after graduating Syracuse University and collaborated with Gruber on his USC senior thesis. By then, Gruber already had a professional background in cinematography which nicely complimented Bress' previous work as a sound engineer. Both had numerous awards from their respective film schools and an equally twisted sense of humor. A partnership was formed.
Their first feature film, Blunt, was completed three years later, written by Bress and directed by Gruber. The controversial indie film went on to tour the festival scene and won accolades including "Best Comedy" from the 1998 New York International Independent Film Festival and later the prestigious "Lumieres" in the 1998 New Orleans Film Festival, an award distinguishing it as one of the Top Ten Films.
The next year, the pair explored the prime time network television front and sold their first one-hour pilot to Disney/ABC. From there, they sold their first major spec script, Frozen, to Phoenix Pictures.
In 2001, they penned the hit thriller Final Destination 2 for New Line Cinema. The Butterfly Effect is the only screenplay they have refused to let out of their hands despite numerous purchase offers and is the second collaboration of what they hope to be a long lasting relationship with New Line Cinema.
Since completing The Butterfly Effect, they've completed rewrites for the feature film Cellular, their second teaming with director David R. Ellis, who had earlier helmed Final Destination 2, and have recently sold a one-hour drama television pilot to Fox Television.
Chris Bender & JC Spink (Producers)
Chris Bender and JC Spink are partners in Benderspink, a diversified management/production company specializing in initiating and managing the careers of screenwriters, directors and actors.
The company opened its doors in November 1998 with fifteen screenwriter clients. Working out of a house, Bender and Spink sold twenty-four client spec scripts, co-produced Universal Pictures' American Pie and convinced executives at Disney to take a chance on a first-time director for Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigalo. On the heels of that success, both New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Television signed the company to separate first-look deals.
Over the next year, Benderspink set up twenty-eight projects. The company saw the successful release of New Line's Final Destination and began filming Warner Bros.' Cats & Dogs and Universal's American Pie 2 by summer 2000.
In 2001, Benderspink set up over thirty feature projects and renewed its first-look deals at both New Line Cinema and Twentieth Century Fox Television.
Additionally, Warner Bros.' Cats & Dogs and Universal's American Pie 2 found large audiences in theatres across the globe with worldwide box office receipts of $200.4 million and $285.4 million, respectively. Cats & Dogs became the third franchise for Benderspink and its clients, while American Pie 2 managed to out-perform its predecessor.
Benderspink maintained a feverish pace in 2002 with a number of high profile spec sales. In mid-October, the Benderspink-produced DreamWorks' film The Ring hit #1 during its opening weekend and maintained one of the top three spots for four consecutive weeks. The film grossed over $128 million domestically and, with a sequel in development, became the fourth franchise for Benderspink and its clients.
The company is maintaining its impressive spec track record in 2003 with a number of script and pitch sales. Additionally, the production side continues to burgeon with two recent films, Universal's American Wedding and Lions Gate's Blind Horizon. The long-anticipated release of American Wedding topped the box office the first weekend of August with an impressive $34.3 million, providing Benderspink with the number one hit of the weekend. And, by early September, the film moved past $100 million mark.
