〈 向 左 走 • 向 右 走 〉 是 華 納 兄 弟 影 片 公 司 製 作 的 首 部 華 語 電 影 。 影 片 根 據 台 灣 繪 本 作 家 幾 米 的 名 著 改 編 。 幾 米 的 作 品 清 新 脫 俗 ， 言 詞 坦 率 �� 誠 ， 深 受 中 、 港 、 台 讀 者 歡 迎 。 〈 向 左 走 • 向 右 走 〉 描 寫 兩 個 都 會 男 女 的 緣 份 故 事 ， 引 起 廣 大 讀 者 的 共 鳴 。

〈 向 左 走 • 向 右 走 〉 由 金 城 武 及 梁 詠 琪 攜 手 主 演 ， 是 兩 人 自 〈 心 動 〉 後 的 再 次 合 作 。 影 片 由 杜 琪 �� 及 韋 家 輝 聯 合 導 演 ， 兩 人 近 年 創 作 的 作 品 如 〈 瘦 身 男 女 〉 、 〈 我 左 眼 見 到 鬼 〉 、 〈 孤 男 寡 女 〉 、 〈 鐘 無 艷 〉 等 均 叫 好 叫 座 ， 是 香 港 影 壇 的 夢 幻 組 合 。

劉 智 康 ﹝ 金 城 武 飾 ﹞ 是 小 提 琴 家 ， 蔡 嘉 儀 ﹝ 梁 詠 琪 飾 ﹞ 靠 翻 譯 寫 作 維 生 ， 兩 人 居 於 同 一 幢 公 寓 ， 卻 因 彼 此 習 慣 不 同 ： 一 個 向 左 走 ， 一 個 向 右 走 ， 因 而 從 未 相 遇 。

兩 個 寂 寞 的 都 市 男 女 ， 雖 處 身 於 很 現 實 的 環 境 中 ， 但 仍 堅 持 理 想 ， 對 愛 情 充 滿 盼 望 。 英 俊 而 略 帶 憂 鬱 的 康 ， 常 為 引 來 周 遭 女 子 的 暗 慕 而 煩 惱 ， 反 而 他 的 音 樂 卻 被 人 忽 略 。

儀 醉 心 於 翻 譯 情 詩 ， 但 為 了 生 活 ， 常 被 迫 翻 譯 通 俗 恐 怖 小 說 ， 且 因 過 份 投 入 而 往 往 弄 得 精 神 緊 張 。

兩 人 不 曾 相 遇 卻 不 斷 擦 身 而 過 ： 在 旋 轉 門 一 進 一 出 、 在 電 梯 一 上 一 落 、 在 月 台 上 分 站 兩 旁 … … 這 麼 近 ， 那 麼 遠 ， 總 是 稍 欠 那 一 點 點 就 會 碰 到 。

終 於 ， 他 們 各 因 欠 租 逃 避 房 東 的 追 纏 ， 同 時 來 到 公 園 。 在 水 池 的 一 端 ， 他 們 遇 上 了 。 兩 人 一 見 投 緣 ， 有 如 一 對 失 散 多 年 的 戀 人 ， 一 起 玩 旋 轉 木 馬 ， 在 草 地 上 傾 談 ， 渡 過 了 一 個 快 樂 又 甜 蜜 的 下 午 。 黃 昏 ， 忽 然 下 起 傾 盆 大 雨 ， 兩 人 匆 忙 交 換 了 電 話 號 碼 ， 倉 惶 但 興 奮 地 分 手 。

不 知 是 否 天 意 弄 人 ， 兩 人 的 電 話 號 碼 ， 在 濕 透 的 紙 上 化 作 一 片 。 兩 人 不 斷 撥 號 卻 無 法 找 到 對 方 。 一 夜 ， 兩 人 同 時 叫 了 外 賣 ， 小 紅 ﹝ 關 穎 飾 ﹞ 分 別 接 了 兩 人 的 外 賣 單 。 她 在 儀 及 康 家 分 別 發 現 兩 人 各 有 一 張 模 糊 了 的 電 話 號 碼 紙 ， 知 道 兩 人 應 有 關 連 。

除 夕 夜 ， 兩 人 分 別 病 倒 ， 康 在 家 中 得 小 紅 悉 心 照 料 ， 儀 則 在 醫 院 重 遇 大 學 學 長 ， 她 現 在 的 主 治 胡 醫 生 ﹝ 陳 之 財 飾 ﹞ 。

小 紅 及 胡 醫 生 均 深 信 與 康 及 儀 有 緣 ， 分 別 主 動 向 對 方 表 達 心 意 。 康 及 儀 被 兩 人 苦 苦 痴 纏 ， 不 勝 其 煩 。 兩 人 沮 喪 地 重 返 到 相 遇 的 公 園 。 都 市 的 變 化 ， 令 人 錯 愕 。 兩 人 先 後 發 現 公 園 竟 在 清 拆 中 ， 就 連 曾 短 暫 相 聚 的 Jimmy Caf �m 也 逃 不 過 將 被 拆 卸 的 命 運 。

胡 醫 生 請 來 私 家 偵 探 跟 蹤 儀 ， 拍 下 了 一 大 疊 照 片 。 每 張 照 片 內 均 見 到 儀 、 康 同 時 出 現 。 茫 茫 人 海 中 ， 兩 人 均 緣 差 一 線 。

小 紅 與 胡 醫 生 因 惱 成 恨 ， 發 誓 一 輩 子 不 讓 儀 及 康 相 見 ， 且 將 照 片 分 別 寄 與 兩 人 。 康 及 儀 拆 開 信 後 ， 看 見 內 裡 相 片 ， 不 禁 悲 從 中 來 ， 嗟 嘆 命 運 弄 人 。

悵 惘 、 失 落 ， 令 兩 人 決 定 離 開 ， 希 望 在 另 一 片 天 空 下 展 開 生 活 新 一 頁 。

兩 人 各 自 整 理 行 李 ， 準 備 離 去 ， 奇 妙 的 事 情 卻 在 這 時 發 生 … …

製 作 背 景

〈 向 左 走 • 向 右 走 〉 於 2002 年 聖 誕 在 台 北 展 開 拍 攝 工 作 ， 拍 攝 地 點 包 括 台 灣 及 香 港 。

「 作 為 華 納 電 影 製 作 的 第 一 部 華 語 電 影 ， 我 們 很 榮 幸 能 與 杜 琪 �� 及 韋 家 輝 合 作 。 」 華 納 兄 弟 影 片 公 司 國 際 行 政 副 總 裁 李 察 霍 士 說 。 「 我 們 一 直 非 常 欣 賞 他 們 的 作 品 ， 能 夠 邀 請 到 他 們 負 責 創 作 這 部 電 影 ， 加 上 令 人 期 待 的 演 員 組 合 及 原 作 繪 本 小 說 在 華 語 地 區 的 廣 受 歡 迎 ， 〈 向 左 走 • 向 右 走 〉 將 會 是 我 們 進 入 華 語 電 影 市 場 完 美 的 第 一 步 。 」

「 〈 向 左 走 • 向 右 走 〉 是 銀 河 映 像 與 美 國 八 大 電 影 公 司 第 一 部 合 作 的 電 影 。 」 導 演 杜 琪 �� 說 ： 「 我 們 很 高 興 能 與 華 納 合 作 ， 〈 向 〉 片 無 論 風 格 與 拍 攝 方 法 與 我 們 過 去 的 製 作 有 所 不 同 ， 可 說 是 華 語 電 影 一 次 嶄 新 的 嘗 試 ， 希 望 能 打 破 地 域 隔 閡 ， 拓 展 華 語 電 影 的 國 際 市 場 」

〈 向 左 走 • 向 右 走 〉 乃 根 據 台 灣 繪 本 作 家 幾 米 的 名 著 改 編 ， 幾 米 本 身 亦 有 參 與 這 部 電 影 。 〈 向 〉 的 故 事 圍 繞 著 一 男 一 女 的 緣 份 發 展 ， 幾 米 把 緣 份 的 得 與 失 交 織 得 引 人 入 勝 ， 言 有 盡 而 意 無 窮 ， 難 怪 深 得 廣 大 讀 者 的 共 鳴 。

「 愛 情 而 言 ， 緣 份 固 然 重 要 ， 但 我 認 為 性 格 決 定 命 運 ， 一 個 人 的 性 格 或 他 的 習 慣 會 令 命 運 改 變 ， 正 如 〈 向 〉 的 主 角 人 物 ， 兩 人 都 因 各 自 性 格 與 習 慣 令 他 們 住 得 這 麼 近 ， 又 離 得 這 樣 遠 。 」 〈 向 〉 的 故 事 開 始 於 男 女 主 角 居 於 同 一 幢 公 寓 只 有 一 牆 之 隔 的 兩 所 房 子 。 原 來 靈 感 來 自 幾 米 的 真 實 生 活 。

「 大 約 五 、 六 年 前 ， 我 家 隔 鄰 的 房 子 裝 修 ， 不 停 有 鑿 牆 聲 。 那 時 我 在 想 ， 住 在 隔 鄰 的 是 什 麼 樣 的 人 ﹖ 一 個 和 你 住 得 這 樣 近 的 陌 生 人 究 竟 長 得 怎 樣 ﹖ 這 個 想 法 一 直 發 展 下 去 ， 就 變 成 了 〈 向 左 走 • 向 右 走 〉 的 故 事 。 」

影 片 〈 向 左 走 • 向 右 走 〉 的 男 女 主 角 金 城 武 與 梁 詠 琪 被 喻 為 銀 幕 上 的 金 童 玉 女 。 在 幾 米 眼 中 ， 他 們 都 是 非 常 理 想 的 人 選 。 「 金 城 武 的 氣 質 特 別 ， 像 書 中 男 主 角 ， 憂 鬱 中 帶 浪 漫 。 梁 詠 琪 樣 子 甜 美 ， 但 對 事 及 人 都 是 持 有 一 份 鮮 有 的 執 著 ， 很 切 合 女 主 角 的 型 像 。 」

金 城 武 與 梁 詠 琪 自 從 〈 心 動 〉 後 ， 這 次 再 度 合 作 ， 備 受 期 待 。 「 我 看 過 原 著 繪 本 小 說 ， 很 喜 歡 它 所 描 寫 的 感 情 ， 若 我 未 遇 上 我 喜 歡 的 人 ， 我 也 會 像 書 中 主 角 般 ， 選 擇 等 待 和 一 個 人 的 寂 寞 。 」 梁 詠 琪 說 。

金 城 武 自 〈 兩 個 只 能 活 一 個 〉 後 再 度 與 杜 琪 �� 及 韋 家 輝 合 作 。 「 這 次 是 我 第 三 次 與 杜 琪 �� 合 作 。 我 首 部 演 出 的 大 銀 幕 電 影 是 由 杜 琪 �� 執 導 的 < 在 東 方 三 俠 II 之 現 代 豪 俠 傳 > 。 杜 琪 �� 與 韋 家 輝 是 我 很 敬 重 的 導 演 ， 他 們 拍 過 多 類 型 不 同 的 電 影 ， 由 浪 漫 喜 劇 到 動 作 類 型 都 有 出 色 處 理 。 〈 向 左 走 • 向 右 走 〉 從 故 事 到 拍 攝 手 法 都 很 特 別 ， 我 希 望 能 給 觀 眾 一 個 驚 喜 。 」

金 城 武 Takeshi Kaneshiro

七 三 年 出 生 於 台 灣 ， 具 有 日 本 血 統 ， 以 其 英 俊 幽 鬱 的 外 型 迷 倒 中 、 港 、 台 、 日 觀 眾 。 九 十 年 代 初 期 以 歌 、 影 姿 態 出 現 ， 拍 過 多 部 台 灣 電 影 喜 劇 。 九 四 及 九 五 年 ， 連 續 演 出 王 家 衛 的 〈 重 慶 森 林 〉 及 〈 墮 落 天 使 〉 ， 成 為 他 演 藝 生 涯 的 轉 捩 點 ， 迅 速 走 紅 香 港 影 壇 ， 先 後 演 出 了 〈 天 涯 海 角 〉 、 〈 神 偷 諜 影 〉 、 〈 初 纏 戀 後 之 二 人 世 界 〉 及 〈 安 娜 瑪 德 蓮 娜 〉 等 。 九 八 年 他 成 功 以 〈 不 夜 城 〉 及 電 視 劇 〈 神 啊 ﹗ 請 給 我 多 一 點 時 間 〉 走 紅 日 本 。 他 與 梁 詠 琪 合 演 張 艾 嘉 導 演 的 〈 心 動 〉 一 片 ， 被 認 為 是 銀 幕 上 的 金 童 玉 女 。 影 片 於 台 灣 、 香 港 票 房 均 非 常 成 功 ， 令 這 次 他 倆 再 度 合 作 的 〈 向 左 走 • 向 右 走 〉 備 受 注 目 。

香 港 土 生 土 長 的 偶 像 演 員 ， 九 五 年 首 度 演 出 電 影 〈 烈 火 戰 車 〉 ， 飾 演 劉 德 華 的 女 朋 友 ， 結 果 一 鳴 驚 人 ， 被 喻 為 極 具 潛 質 的 新 人 ， 先 後 演 出 多 部 賣 座 電 影 包 括 ： 與 周 星 馳 合 演 的 〈 百 變 星 君 〉 、 與 吳 鎮 宇 合 演 的 〈 愛 與 誠 〉 及 與 鄭 伊 健 合 演 的 〈 百 份 百 感 覺 〉 等 。

梁 清 麗 脫 俗 ， 形 像 健 康 ， 深 得 少 男 少 女 喜 愛 ， 她 演 而 優 則 唱 ， 在 港 、 台 擁 有 大 量 歌 迷 ， 有 學 生 情 人 的 稱 號 。

九 九 年 ， 她 與 金 城 武 合 作 〈 心 動 〉 ， 由 少 女 演 到 成 熟 女 人 階 段 ， 成 為 她 演 藝 上 的 突 破 之 作 。

她 前 年 演 出 由 文 雋 監 製 的 〈 我 的 兄 弟 姊 妹 〉 ， 令 她 於 國 內 的 知 名 度 大 增 。 零 一 至 零 二 年 ， 她 以 喜 劇 型 像 演 出 〈 絕 世 好 Bra 〉 及 〈 絕 世 好 B 〉 兩 片 ， 令 人 耳 目 一 新 。 去 年 ， 她 首 度 與 杜 琪 �� 、 韋 家 輝 合 作 電 影 〈 嚦 咕 嚦 咕 新 年 財 〉 ， 演 出 深 受 觀 眾 喜 愛 。

梁 不 單 外 型 清 新 ， 她 近 期 也 以 作 曲 家 身 份 得 了 多 個 音 樂 獎 項 ， 成 為 新 一 代 才 女 。

陳 之 財 Edmund Chen

陳 之 財 是 多 面 化 的 演 藝 人 ， 除 了 演 出 電 影 、 電 視 及 舞 台 劇 ， 還 會 唱 歌 及 當 主 持 的 才 能 。 他 於 八 六 年 演 出 了 第 一 部 電 視 劇 〈 雨 過 天 晴 〉 ， 演 戲 才 華 備 受 肯 定 ， 他 以 高 大 俊 朗 的 外 型 ， 演 出 超 過 40 部 電 視 劇 。

陳 之 財 於 九 八 年 首 度 於 銀 幕 演 出 ， 作 品 〈 天 上 人 間 〉 曾 於 蒙 特 利 爾 電 影 節 展 出 ， 此 後 他 合 共 演 出 了 五 部 電 影 。

於 音 樂 上 ， 他 先 後 出 過 四 張 個 人 專 輯 ； 於 舞 台 上 他 合 共 演 出 了 三 個 劇 作 ： 包 括 〈 私 處 〉 及 〈 阿 肓 王 〉 。

關 穎 Terri Kwan

擁 有 模 特 兒 身 段 的 關 穎 ， 曾 拍 過 多 個 著 名 商 品 的 平 面 及 電 視 廣 告 ， 包 括 道 享 銀 行 、 大 通 銀 行 及 Tiger Beer 等 。 大 學 畢 業 的 她 能 歌 擅 舞 ， 曾 於 美 國 邁 亞 米 舞 蹈 音 樂 大 賽 贏 得 跳 舞 大 獎 。 她 在 台 灣 演 出 的 電 視 劇 包 括 〈 吐 司 男 之 吻 II - 愛 情 本 事 〉 及 〈 又 見 橘 花 香 〉 ， 電 影 演 出 作 品 則 有 ︰ 〈 給 我 一 隻 貓 〉 及 〈 小 雨 之 歌 〉 。 她 亦 更 曾 與 張 學 友 合 作 演 出 〈 禮 物 〉 一 曲 的 音 樂 錄 影 帶 。

幕 後 班 底

杜 琪 �� ( 聯 合 導 演 及 行 政 監 製 ) 七 四 年 加 入 無 線 電 視 有 限 公 司 工 作 ， 曾 出 任 編 導 及 監 製 職 務 。 其 電 視 作 品 ? 兩 次 獲 得 紐 約 國 際 電 視 節 金 獎 。 杜 琪 �� 於 七 九 年 投 身 電 影 圈 ， 首 部 作 品 是 < 碧 水 寒 山 奪 命 金 > 。 二 十 多 年 來 ， 他 執 導 及 監 製 超 過 45 部 電 影 ， 被 喻 為 香 港 最 有 影 響 力 的 導 演 之 一 。

Production Information

Dashing John Liu (TAKESHI KANESHIRO) is an aspiring violinist. Women flock to him like bees to honey but what he truly longs for is to meet that special someone who will appreciate his music, not just his face. To make life worse, John is forced to take a part-time job serenading unappreciative dinner patrons at a five-star restaurant.

Eve Choi (GIGI LEUNG) is a professional translator. Her true passion is translating love poems by poets around the world, but on most days she is stuck translating cheesy novels and cheap thrillers.

Like millions living in a large city, John and Eve lead lives of wistful solitude. Living in the same apartment building and separated by one thin wall, John and Eve may have brushed shoulders in crowds a hundred times, but somehow their paths never really cross.

At the right corner of their apartment building, June, a neurotic stalker, is waiting for John. To avoid her, John always turns left. While translating a horror novel, the imaginative Eve thought she saw a ghost on the left corner of the building; since then, she always turns right.

One day, while walking around a circular fountain in the park, they finally bump into each other…literally. John helps Eve retrieves her wet pages of translation work from the fountain and like long-lost lovers, the two spend a beautiful afternoon together. They ride the merry-go-round; he plays his violin for her while she reads him her favorite poems. As dusk falls, a sudden shower cuts the encounter short. John and Eve exchange phone numbers and quickly run home. Out of habit, one runs left while the other runs right.

For the first time in their lives, they no longer feel alone. Yet fate plays a cruel joke on them. The next morning, both discover that rain has soaked through their precious scrap of paper and the phone numbers are hopelessly smudged…

On Christmas day, both desperately dial different combinations…no luck. In the evening, they call the same restaurant for food delivery. The delivery girl, Joan (TERRI KWAN), has noticed similar scraps of smudged numbers at John's and Eve's apartments. She never whispers a word for, like the rest of the female race, she has fallen in love with John at first sight and wants him for herself.

On New Year's Eve, John and Eve come down with the same nasty flu. He dials an ambulance and mumbles his address. Delirious from a high fever, Eve opens her door and instantly passes out. It turns out the medics have the wrong apartment number, and pick her up instead. Luckily for John, Joan drops in and nurses him through the night.

Eve wakes up at the hospital. Who is this staring at her? Dr. Hu instantly recognizes Eve. They went to school together. Yes, she remembers him too.

While Joan is taking over John's apartment, Dr. Hu is redecorating Eve's. Joan and Hu are each convinced that they are meant to be with John and Eve. To escape from Joan, John returns to the park. The park is being renovated and they've disassembled the merry-go-round. John lugs a wooden horse home. Just as John turns the corner, Eve also sees the same desolate park and she also drags one of the abandoned wooden horses home. Time and again, they just miss each other.

Warner Bros. Pictures is producing its first-ever Chinese-language film, Turn left turn right, and principal photography commenced in Taipei on Boxing Day, 2002. Production on the film, which stars Takeshi Kaneshiro, will then continue in Hong Kong. Richard Fox, Executive Vice President, International, Warner Bros., announced the film today.

Johnnie To and Wai Ka Fai, one of Hong Kong's premiere writing and directing teams (The Mission, Running out of Time, Needing You), will write and direct Turn left turn right.

"It is an honor to be working with such esteemed talents as Johnnie To and Wai Ka Fai, especially on our first foray into Chinese-language film production" said Fox. "We've long been fans of their work and feel this film, which combines a property embraced by readers throughout Asia with an excellent cast and extremely talented directors with a passion for the material, is the perfect entry into China's local-language film marketplace."

Turn left turn right is based on the best-selling illustrated love story of the same name by renowned Taiwanese author/artist Jimmy Liao, who is working closely with the filmmakers on the project. The film tells the simple, whimsical story of a lonely man, played by Takeshi Kaneshiro (Tempting Heart, Fallen Angels, Chungking Express) and woman, played by Gigi Leung (Le Brassiere, Tempting Heart), who live in the same apartment building, yet, due to their habitually quirky comings and goings, have never met. Following a chance encounter at a park, events, meddling acquaintances and pure bad luck conspire to keep the would-be lovers apart as each makes plans to change their life and leave the past behind.

The story begins with the two protagonists living in neighboring apartments in the same building, separated only by a wall. The idea was inspired by Liao's real life experience.

"About five or six years ago, my neighbor was renovating his apartment and there was incessant hammering. At that time, I wondered: What sort of person is he? What does he look like? This line of thought continued to develop and eventually gave birth to the story of Turn left turn right."

The movie's leads, Gigi Leung and Takeshi Kaneshiro, are considered one of Asia's silver screen "dream couples". Author Jimmy Liao is delighted with the casting. "Kaneshiro is exactly like the character in my book: he is a social misfit but there is something very romantic about him. As for Gigi, underneath her sweet demeanor, there is strength and conviction."

"When I read the book, I instantly fell in love with it. Like the character I play, I can only be with a person I truly love. I'd prefer loneliness over having a companion that I don't have strong feelings for," Gigi Leung said.

The movie marks Kaneshiro's third project with Johnnie To. " My movie debut was with director To in Executioners. Subsequently, I played the leading role in The Odd One Dies which was directed by Wai and produced by To. I've tremendous respect for both directors. Together, they've spanned and conquered very different genres: from action to romantic comedies to dramas. Turn left turn right is something very special; it's unlike any other Chinese film I've made," Kaneshiro said.

"Turn left turn right marks the first time Milkyway Image has collaborated with a major American studio," said To. "We're excited to be working with Warner Bros. Pictures and are confident this collaboration will open up new possibilities for the Chinese film industry."

Warner Bros. Pictures is producing Turn left turn right in association with Raintree Pictures, Media Corporation Singapore and with To's production company, Milkyway Image (H.K.) Co., Ltd. Warner Bros. Pictures will distribute the film worldwide.

Turn left turn right furthers Warner Bros. Pictures' long-term commitment to the production, acquisition and distribution of local-language films in their country of origin. This strategy allows the company to stay competitive in the market, especially with the rise in appetite for locally produced product and the emergence of major local entertainment corporate players in the film production and distribution arena.

ABOUT THE CAST

TAKESHI KANESHIRO (John Liu) is one of Asian cinema's most-favored heartthrobs, with a wide fan base that spans China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan. Born in Taipei in 1973 to a Japanese father and Taiwanese mother, Kaneshiro started his career in the early 1990s, appearing in a series of Taiwanese comedies and releasing several albums. He rose to stardom in 1994 and 1995 playing leading roles in Wong Kar-wai's international hits: Chungking Express and Fallen Angels. He subsequently starred in several Hong Kong box-office hits including Downtown Torpedoes, Anna Magdalena and Lavender. In 1998, the popularity of Sleepless Town and the TV drama God! Please Give Me More Time established Kaneshiro as one of the most sought-after actors in Japan. The same year saw director Sylvia Chang bringing him and Gigi Leung together in the romantic hit film Tempting Heart. Five years later, these two Asian superstars are working together again in Turn left turn right. Kaneshiro's latest release, Returner, was the top-grossing Japanese film in Japan in 2002.

GIGI LEUNG (Eve Choi), a Hong Kong artiste, made her big-screen debut in 1995 in Full Throttle, which immediately launched her as a dazzling new star. Since then she has performed alongside top Hong Kong actors including Andy Lau, Ekin Cheng and Stephen Chow. Leung's natural beauty and healthy image have made her a popular teen idol in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. In 1999, her memorable performance with Kaneshiro in Tempting Heart firmly established her as an actress. Her role in the recent mainland Chinese blockbuster film Roots and Branches has made her one of the top-selling actresses in China. Aside from her acting career, Leung is also a successful singer with numerous music prizes to her name. Just last month, she won the coveted Hong Kong Composer Awards and was crowned the "hot talented singer/composer" by the media.

EDMUND CHEN (Dr. Hu) has appeared in more than 40 television dramas in Singapore. His good looks have rendered him one of Singapore's top-billing actors. Chen has made five feature films, of which Heaven on Earth has been screened at the Montreal Film Festival.

TERRI KWAN (Joan), an upcoming Taiwanese actress, began her show business career in television commercials. She recently completed her second TV drama in Taiwan. Her feature films include Drop Me a Cat and Xiao Yu's Song.

ABOUT THE FILMMAKERS

JOHNNIE TO KEI FUNG (co-director, executive producer) began his career at Television Broadcast Ltd. (TVB) in 1974. He was a producer and director at the network's production division. Among To's television works, two won New York's International TV Festival Gold Award. In 1979 To made his big-screen directorial debut with The Enigmatic Case. Over the next two decades he directed and produced over thirty feature films, which earned him recognition as one of the most successful directors in Hong Kong.

In 1996 To created Milkyway Image, an independent film production house. Under the company's banner, To has produced and directed a series of original and genre-bending films. Most notable among them is The Mission, which earned To the Best Director honor at the Hong Kong Film Awards and the Taipei Golden Horse Award.

Lauded as the most productive filmmaker in Hong Kong today, To's creative vision has attracted the attention of critics and cineastes worldwide. Films such as The Mission, Running Out of Time (1999) and Fulltime Killer (2001) have all been film festival favorites, making their appearances across Europe and North America.

To's most-recent film PTU had its international premiere at the 2003 Berlin Film Festival. The film has been selected as the opening film for the upcoming Hong Kong International Film festival.

WAI KA FAI (co-director, executive producer, writer) began his career as a writer at TVB in Hong Kong in 1981. He was promoted to the post of Chief Creative Executive five years later and was promoted to producer in 1989. Since then he has produced more than 10 TV dramas, including hit series "Look Back with Anger" which attracted more than 100 million viewers. His feature film works have been lauded at many international film festivals. He has worked with Johnnie To on many projects, including recent blockbusters such as Fulltime Killer and Love for all Seasons, of which Wai was a co-director and writer.

JIMMY LIAO (author / artist) has a B.A. degree in fine arts, with a major in design. With 12 years of experience in advertising, the Taipei-born talent now works as an illustrator. Since 1998, Liao has published many illustrated books with dazzlingly original drawings and multi-faceted narratives. In fact, he has started a craze for publishing illustrated books in Taiwan and other markets. Utilizing images as a refreshing form of literary language, Liao creates in his books poetic pictures that are charming and appealing. He has published 14 popular books which have been translated into English, French, German, Greek, Japanese and Korean. Many of his books have been rated "Best Children's Books" by leading newspapers.

COMPANY PROFILES

Milkyway Image is Hong Kong's leading film production company providing comprehensive film production service. Since director Johnnie To set up the firm in 1995, Milkyway has brought audiences new worlds of entertainment. Last year, Milkyway successfully listed on Hong Kong's GEM board.
