【 飛 龍 再 生 】 是 迄 今 史 上 最 高 成 本 的 香 港 投 資 電 影 ， 製 作 費 高 達 3 億 港 元 ， 破 香 港 影 壇 紀 錄 。 成 龍 亦 在 片 中 作 上 兩 個 創 舉 ， 第 一 ， 他 扮 演 的 角 色 破 天 荒 在 電 影 中 犧 牲 生 命 ； 第 二 ， 這 是 成 龍 首 部 結 合 大 量 特 技 與 高 難 度 動 作 設 計 的 電 影 。

據 監 製 張 堅 庭 表 示 ， 或 許 有 人 以 為 成 龍 只 喜 歡 拍 動 作 喜 劇 ， 其 實 成 龍 很 喜 歡 嘗 試 新 題 材 ， 【 飛 龍 再 生 】 是 個 奇 幻 的 故 事 ， 給 予 成 龍 很 多 從 未 有 過 的 靈 感 及 想 像 空 間 ， 設 計 全 新 的 動 作 。 導 演 陳 嘉 上 認 為 ， 【 飛 龍 再 生 】 是 個 難 得 的 製 作 ， 結 合 了 現 今 全 球 電 影 的 最 高 原 素 ： 香 港 的 動 作 ； 荷 李 活 的 特 技 ； 和 世 界 級 的 卡 士 - 成 龍 。

為 了 加 強 幕 後 的 製 作 班 底 ， 英 皇 特 別 邀 請 洪 金 寶 擔 任 當 動 作 指 導 。 洪 金 寶 憑 著 收 視 冠 軍 的 電 視 劇 【 過 江 龍 】 ， 成 為 在 美 國 極 受 歡 迎 的 演 員 ， 他 將 會 聯 同 成 龍 及 陳 嘉 上 ， 傾 盡 全 力 為 觀 眾 設 計 悅 目 可 觀 的 動 作 場 面 。

為 了 配 合 【 飛 龍 再 生 】 獨 特 的 故 事 ， 幕 後 人 員 曾 涉 足 過 歐 、 美 、 澳 等 十 多 個 地 區 ， 最 後 選 擇 了 英 國 愛 爾 蘭 為 電 影 的 主 景 。 導 演 陳 嘉 上 表 示 ， 愛 爾 蘭 的 景 色 給 人 很 滄 涼 、 很 原 始 的 味 道 ， 加 上 有 很 多 中 古 留 下 來 的 堡 疊 ， 很 配 合 故 事 主 角 活 在 生 與 死 之 間 的 奇 異 遭 遇 。 此 外 ， 【 飛 龍 再 生 】 亦 會 分 別 在 泰 國 及 香 港 等 地 取 景 。

故 事 大 綱

一 直 以 來 ， 愛 爾 蘭 流 傳 ， 只 要 的 得 到 古 老 的 再 生 力 量 ， 死 後 便 會 變 成 永 遠 不 滅 的 「 不 死 人 」 。

香 港 特 警 阿 狄 疾 惡 如 仇 ， 一 直 與 偷 運 人 蛇 集 團 不 斷 對 抗 ， 在 一 次 執 行 任 務 中 ， 他 遇 上 了 國 際 人 蛇 集 團 的 主 腦 「 蛇 魔 」 。 「 蛇 魔 」 為 人 聰 明 ， 性 格 凶 殘 。 阿 狄 與 美 國 特 務 屈 遜 一 同 出 動 ， 圍 攻 「 蛇 魔 」 巢 穴 ， 發 現 一 個 被 「 蛇 魔 」 綁 架 的 小 孩 Jai 。 阿 狄 欲 救 Jai 卻 被 「 蛇 魔 」 走 脫 ， 屈 遜 怪 阿 狄 魯 莽 壞 事 ， 兩 人 不 歡 而 散 。

妮 歌 帶 阿 狄 到 屈 遜 家 拜 訪 ， 認 識 了 屈 遜 的 太 太 夏 洛 及 他 的 兒 子 米 斯 ， 一 頓 晚 飯 下 來 ， 破 解 了 阿 狄 與 屈 遜 兩 人 的 嫌 隙 ， 彼 此 再 度 攜 手 合 作 。

翌 日 ， 阿 狄 發 現 李 斯 手 下 傑 卡 的 行 縱 ， 在 都 柏 林 市 中 心 展 開 追 逐 ， 將 之 擒 獲 ， 並 從 他 口 中 得 知 李 斯 的 貨 船 將 會 抵 達 碼 頭 。

【THE MEDALLION】About the film 'The Medallion' features an unbeatable combination : the physicality of international action superstar Jackie Chan together with an eye-popping array of state-of-the-art special effects.

The EMG production is budgeted at US $40 million, making it the most expensive Hong Kong film ever. Like most of Jackie Chan's recent local productions, the 'The Medallion' will be shot with a mixture of Cantonese and English dialogue.

Long-time fans of Jackie Chan's unique style of action will be delighted to see how 'The Medallion' brings the 'fun' factor back to his films. This fast-paced comedy thriller pairs Chan with a suitably slapstick British performer, and places the two of them in a situation just packed with comedic potential.

Though Chinese style martial arts films have enjoyed success internationally, the real 'break out' titles have been those in which the genuine physical skills of the performers have been enhanced by special effects technology. The most obvious examples of this as 'The Matrix', 'Romeo Must Die' and the Oscar-winning period epic 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon'. 'The Medallion' will see the first time this mix of visceral and visual effects is applied to an action comedy.

The film is being shot on location in the UK, giving fans a chance to see Jackie Chan in a whole new environment. The Irish locale for many of the scenes brings a Celtic flavour to the backdrop against which Chan's trademark action sequences are set.

Producer Alfred Cheung first discussed collaborating with Jackie Chan on another EMG project, 'Manhattan Midnight'. However, the central role, that of a cold-blooded hitman, was so removed from Chan's established screen persona that Cheung felt it was better to develop an entirely new project for him.

Inspired by Chinese folk legends and Hollywood special effects movies, Cheung came up with the 'The Medallion' concept.

【THE MEDALLION】Synopsis

THE MEDALLION synopsis

In 'The Medallion', Jackie Chan plays an seasoned Hong Kong cop who gets killed in the line of duty, then finds himself reanimated with supernaturally enhanced powers.

Inspector Eddie Yang (Jackie Chan) is a fearless Hong Kong cop working with eccentric British Interpol agent Arthur Watson (Lee Evans) to track down a ruthless criminal known only as Snakehead (Julian Sands). During a raid on a Buddhist temple, Eddie foils Snakehead's attempt to kidnap a young boy, Jai (Alex Bao), who is performing a mystical ceremony involving a sacred medallion. Snakehead manages to escape which angers Watson, who then blames Eddie for botching his operation.

Two weeks later, Eddie receives a tip-off that Snakehead's partner, Lester Wong (Anthony Wong), is putting Jai onto a freighter to transport him to Dublin, Ireland. Eddie and his team storm the vessel but, after a fierce gun and fistfight, Lester escapes with the boy.

Eddie flies to Ireland to meet with Interpol, where, to his surprise, he is reunited with an old flame, Interpol agent Nicole James (Claire Forlani). Nicole introduces Eddie to her boss, Commander Hammerstock-Smythe (John Rhys-Davies). Watson is very unhappy that Eddie is in Dublin, but the Commander welcomes Eddie's help with the Snakehead case.

Nicole and Eddie visit Watson's house, where Eddie meets Watson's beautiful Chinese wife, Charlotte (Christy Chung) and their precocious son, Miles (Billy Hill). After a 'family' dinner, Eddie and Watson bury the hatchet, and agree to work together.

The following day, Eddie happens upon one of Lester's henchmen, Giscard (Johan Meyers). After an acrobatic chase through Dublin, Eddie subdues Giscard, and learns that Snakehead has a shipment arriving at the docks in Dublin.

Eddie, Nicole and Watson race to the docks, and see Lester arrive with Jai. Eddie attempts to arrest Lester and rescue the boy. During the fierce fight that follows, he and Jai are trapped together inside a huge container. Lester knocks the container into the sea and it begins to fill up with water. When the container is pulled out of the water, Watson & Claire find that Eddie has saved Jai's life at the expense of his own. They try in vain to revive Eddie, but it is too late. As they walk away, Jai comes up to Eddie and puts the medallion into his hand. The medallion begins to glow, filling the air with a magical light.

At the morgue, Nicole pays a tearful farewell to Eddie. Hammerstock-Smythe and the team leave Watson alone with Eddie's body. As Watson apologizes to his former friend, he is shocked when a second Eddie Yang walks up to him, very much alive. As he tries to figure out how there could be two Eddie's, he pulls out the medallion they found on Eddie's body. It begins to glow and the body of the dead Eddie Yang dissolves away.

Eddie and Watson go to question Jai in the hospital, and are just in time to stop a kidnap attempt by Snakehead's men. During the fight, Eddie discovers that he is now supernaturally enhanced. Although he still feels pain, knives and bullets simply puncture his skin, the wounds emitting a strange white light, before healing instantly.

Nicole takes Jai to her apartment and expresses her sadness that Eddie is dead. Jai tells her that he brought Eddie back and Nicole suddenly sees Eddie standing outside her window. As she rushes to see him, one of Snakehead's men crashes through another window, grabbing Jai and flying off in a helicopter. Eddie tries to fly up and save Jai, but can't reach them and the helicopter flies off over Dublin.

Now that Snakehead has kidnapped Jai, he forces the boy to use the medallion to bring him back from the dead, endowing him with supernatural powers like Eddie. But, Snakehead has failed to notice that Jai only has half the medallion, which means he is not immortal. Snakehead demands that Jai tell him where the other half of the medallion is.

While Eddie & Watson check on Watson's family, their house is attacked by Snakehead's men. Eddie leads them away into the woods where he encounters Snakehead himself. Eddie realizes that Snakehead also has supernatural powers and when he refuses to hand over the other half of the medallion, the two take part in an awesome duel. Snakehead overpowers Eddie and takes the medallion just as Watson arrives. Snakehead flees but Watson believes that Eddie may acutally be dead this time.

As everyone looks on, Eddie revives in Watson's living room and he, Nicole and Watson set off for Snakehead's castle. Once inside, they face the challenge of their lives, as they take on Snakehead's men and, ultimately, a showdown between Eddie and Snakehead where they each use their supernatural powers during a ferocious battle. It is a fight Eddie must win … for everyone's sake.

'The Medallion' offers more action than humanly possible from the world's favourite action star.

Production Highlight

EMG's Jackie Chan blockbuster 'The Medallion' is the most expensive Hong Kong movie ever, with a budget of over HK$3 billion. Given Jackie's huge popularity worldwide, the project had several major studios vying for the international distribution rights. In the end, Columbia Tristar secured the worldwide rights (outside of France and Asia). The estimated potential worldwide revenue for EMG is in excess of US$ 50m (HK$4 billion).

The films' many special effects shots are being executed by the internationally respected Moving Picture Co. The London-based company previously provided visual fx for such hits as 'The Matrix', 'Tomb Raider' and 'Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone'. Given the complexity of the 'The Medallion' visuals, its anticipated that the film will be in post-production for ten months.

'The Medallion' was shot on location in Ireland, Hong Kong and Thailand.

Ireland

Dublin Castle provided a major location during the Ireland leg of the 'The Medallion' shoot. This world famous landmark, situated in the heart of the Irish capital, was once the seat of the island's kings.

The castle, currently owned by a scion of the Guinness family, provided the backdrop for an exciting Jackie Chan chase sequence. The exterior of the villain's lair was shot at the ruins of an ancient castle situated in Northern Island, while its massive interior was constructed on a specially constructed soundstage in Bangkok, Thailand. Similarly, comedy scenes set in an Irish hospital were filmed on location Dublin, while action scenes set in the same environment were executed on a skillfully designed set in a Hong Kong studio.

Hong Kong

The opening action sequence of 'The Medallion' features some trademark Jackie Chan stunts, ending in an explosion that took six months to design. The Hong Kong government proved itself very supportive of the project, lending the producers Marine Police launches and various police vehicles. For the first time, the Hong Kong armed forces allowed a film to borrow one of its state-of-the-art Blackhawk S70 helicopters. The Blackhawk is best known for its role during the Gulf War, and at other military flashpoints worldwide.

A scene involving the transport of a party of illegal immigrants was shot at Tuen Mun, in Hong Kong's New Territories. The Three Decks Air Star Hot Air Balloon Light illuminated a massive merchant marine vessel. It marked the first time this French invention was used for a Hong Kong movie. The rental cost for a ten day period was over $HK280, 000.

Thailand

The film's biggest interior, the villain's lair, was constructed in a Bangkok sports center named Thunder Dome. The total construction cost was over HK$10m, including rent, construction materials and labour.

Jackie Chan (Eddie Yang)

Jackie Chan is such an international movie icon that he now needs little introduction. This graduate from Hong Kong's Chinese Opera Academy worked his way through the ranks as a stuntman and martial arts movie performer, before finally becoming a star in the 1978 kung fu comedy 'Snake In The Eagle's Shadow'. He sustained his superstar status in Asia with hits like 'Project A', 'Police Story' and 'Armour Of God'.

It wasn't until 1986, when 'Rumble In The Bronx' was released in the US, that Chan finally conquered the American market. The subsequent worldwide release of his Hong Kong hits 'Supercop' and 'First Strike' confirmed his new status, and Chan reached a whole new level of fame when he was cast in the New Line comedy actioner 'Rush Hour'. The film's international success inspired a US $100 million sequel. Chan also starred in the popular eastern Western 'Shanghai Noon', and is scheduled to shoot a follow-up, entitled 'Shanghai Knights', later this year. It was recently announced that Chan would star in the film 'The Tuxedo' for Dreamworks. With his massive fan base, which reaches from the most remote regions of China to the deepest American states, Jackie Chan remains the world's most popular movie star.

"I've been thinking so long about doing a film that will bring my real stunts and special effects together. Now 'The Medallion' gives me a chance to do it. EMG specially designed it for me, the script, the character…

"I've always been interested in special effects. I just didn't know how to combine my Jackie Chan action with special effects. I think it's a good idea, but it has to be done the right way. I don't want to be flying around, jumping one hundred feet in the air… I don't think the public will accept this. No matter how, it has to be believable.

"Jackie Chan style is Jackie Chan style, and, in this film, you still can see the Jackie Chan style, but we take it to another level. For so long, I've been making one film for American market, one film for Asian market. In the future, I want to make one film for all over the world! Maybe 'The Medallion' will be the one. I hope so!"

Lee Evans (Arthur Watson)

Comic superstar Lee Evans first found fame in his native England as one of the country's foremost stand-up comedians. His sell-out West End shows have won several awards, and been immortalized as hit video releases. Lee had a cameo role opposite Bruce Willis in the Luc Besson s-f epic 'The Fifth Element', before going on to show his dramatic range in the critically acclaimed 'Funny Bones'. He went on to co-star in two very different Hollywood productions. The slapstick hit 'Mouse Hunt' saw him join forces with Broadway icon Nathan Lane, and the outrageous 'There's Something About Mary' cast him as one of Cameron Diaz' more unlikely suitors. Lee makes his action debut opposite Jackie Chan in the blockbuster 'The Medallion'.

Claire Forlani (Nicole James)

Born in England of mixed British and Italian parentage, Claire Forlani's career blossomed in the USA. This fine example of cross-culture charm first made came to the attention of movie audiences when she delivered a perfect Valley Girl accent for her role in Kevin Smith's cult classic 'Mall Rats'. Claire gained further exposure with her cameo role in the action epic 'The Rock', playing Sean Connery's long-lost daughter. She broadened her range with impressive dramatic turns in such art-house fare as 'Basquiat' and 'The Last Time I Committed Suicide', but is still best known for her performance opposite Brad Pitt in 'Meet Joe Black'. Claire is in full action movie heroine mode for 'The Medallion', in which she will be shooting and kicking alongside martial arts maestro Jackie Chan.

Christy Chung (Charlotte)

Canadian-born actress Christy Chung has starred in a whole string of popular Hong Kong movies. She played opposite Jet Li in 'Bodyguard From Beijing', was directed by 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' choreographer Yuen Woo-ping for 'Red Wolf' and co-starred in the Jackie Chan-produced actioner 'Gen-Y Cops'. She starred alongside acclaimed comic actor Stephen Chiau Sing-chi in the hit films 'Love On Delivery' and 'Hail The Judge'. Chung made her international debut in the German production 'Samsara', which was shot on location in Ladakh. She followed this with the dramatic 'Jandara', which was shot in Thailand, and produced by 'Love Letter' director Peter Chan. Christy makes her mainstream English language debut with 'The Medallion'.

Gordon Chan (Director)

Since he first took over the directorial reins on a thriller entitled 'The Big Heat', Gordon Chan has been one of Hong Kong's most prolific, eclectic and successful film-makers. Though he has made films in almost every genre, he is perhaps best-known for his action movies. He produced and directed a string of hard-boiled cop thrillers, starting with 1994's 'Final Option' and culminating in 1998's award-winning 'Beast Cops'. His most successful project to date, on the international market, has been the Jackie Chan actioner 'Thunderbolt'. Gordon Chan has always been fascinated with period martial arts action films. He helmed the Stephen Chiau hit 'King Of Beggars' and the film many fans consider Jet Li's best : 'Fist Of Legend'. Chan's last film, as director, was the comedy thriller 'Okinawan Rendezvous' and he is currently developing a martial arts epic entitled 'Swordbearer'.

"When you think of Jackie Chan, you think good, clean fun, and that's what this film is going to deliver. We want to use the supernatural aspect to make it even more fun. Jackie has made so many action films, we had to find something he hadn't done before, and he never did anything involving ghosts. When we first pitched the idea to him, his response was 'Me? A ghost?', but, after he saw the script, he became very enthusiastic about the potential of the project.

'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' is a very good example of mixing Hollywood special effects with Hong Kong style action. We're bringing a similar level of action into the modern day, and adding comedy and adding Jackie Chan, which we believe will be even more entertaining for the international audience.

"The audience still expects to see Jackie fighting, and we deliver that. We have scenes where he's showing off his real physical prowess, because he doesn't need wires to pull him up. We just use the special effects to take Jackie's own action to a new level, and I think his fans are going to love it."

Alfred Cheung (Producer)

Alfred Cheung made his name in the Hong Kong film industry as a local Woody Allen figure, writing, directing and starring in a string of well-observed social comedies. The best-loved of these include the 'Her Fatal Ways' series, an Asian 'Ninotchka' retread in which a Mainland Chinese lady police officer is sent on assignment to the 'capitalist' colony of Hong Kong. In 1988, Cheung showed his range with 'On The Run'. In this dark thriller, a Vietnamese hit-woman becomes a dark angel sworn to protect a fugitive cop and his daughter. The twist is that this same assassin earlier executed the man's wife… Cheung explores similar themes in his recently completed English language thriller 'Manhattan Midnight'. The film was shot in New York with a cast including Hollywood veteran Richard Grieco and rising star Maggie Q.

"If you ask me to give you a one line pitch on 'The Medallion', I'd say its 'Lethal Weapon' meets 'Ghost'. By this I mean that we have all the action of the 'cop on a mission' style of thriller, together with this added supernatural dimension.

"Jackie himself has always been very interested in special effects, but he was never really sure how to use them in his own films. He made his name as an actor who does his own stunts, so there seemed to be a conflict between the 'reality' of his films, and the idea of enhancing the action with special effects. However, the premise for 'The Medallion' provides a very believable way for us to combine the two.

"After he gets killed, Jackie doesn't come back as Superman. He's an enhanced version of what he was before. This means that he has his usual physical skills, plus this extra power that even he doesn't know how to use. This allows for a lot of physical comedy, and a chance to bring a different level of action to a Jackie Chan film."

Sammo Hung (Action director)

Sammo Hung became Jackie Chan's 'elder brother' when both were students at Hong Kong's Chinese Opera academy. After surviving the rigours of this very physical education process, Hung entered the film industry as a martial arts stuntman. He was hired as fight coordinator for the Golden Harvest film, 'The Fast Sword', and became a mainstay of the studio's action output. Hung was first introduced to international audiences when he fought Bruce Lee in the duel that opens 'Enter The Dragon'. As a director and star in his own right, he went on to craft a canon of ground-breaking martial arts actioners, including 'Warriors Two', 'Magnificent Butcher' and 'Prodigal Son'. He created the action-comedy horror genre with 'Spooky Encounters'. In the 1980s, Hung teams with former classmate Chan for a string of smash hit releases, including 'Project A', 'Wheels On Meals' and 'Dragons Forever'. Sammo reached a whole new level of popularity worldwide when he starred in the hit CBS series 'Martial Law'. He now divides his time between Hollywood, where he recently choreographed an action scene for the Gwyneth Paltrow comedy 'A View From The Top', and Hong Kong, where he appeared in the forthcoming Miramax release 'Flying Dragon, Leaping Tiger'.

"I'm really looking forward to working with Jackie on this film. We've known each other since we were little kids. In fact, the relationship between us is very hard to describe to people! Every time we collaborate, it's good fun as well as hard work, but the more fun we have, the better the work seems to turn out!

"I have a lot of respect for Gordon Chan as a director. I first got to know him when he wrote the script for the film 'Dragons Forever', and he went on to become one of Hong Kong's best film-makers. We worked together very happily on Jackie's film 'Thunderbolt', and I think we'll be a good team on this film.

"The concept of 'The Medallion' is very interesting. I made several supernatural action films back in Hong Kong, such as 'Spooky Encounters' and 'The Dead And The Deadly'. However, we didn't really have any special effects at that time. There was no CGI, and the make-up effects were really primitive. Its exciting to see how we can combine Hong Kong style martial arts and Hollywood special effects for the 'The Medallion' action scenes."
