2000 年 。 蓮 見 14 歲 ， 為 了 進 貢 給 星 野 和 他 的 黨 羽 ， 不 惜 高 買 。 星 野 強 令 他 在 ? 人 面 前 手 淫 ， 又 逼 他 替 同 班 女 生 做 「 馬 伕 」 賣 淫 。 蓮 見 暗 戀 著 另 一 女 生 洋 子 （ 伊 藤 步 ） 。 聽 著 她 彈 奏 的 鋼 琴 ， 使 他 暫 時 得 以 忘 卻 可 怕 的 現 實 。 但 不 久 ， 洋 子 也 成 了 星 野 的 犧 牲 者 。 蓮 見 對 「 青 貓 」 說 ： 「 我 嘗 試 自 殺 ， 但 卻 下 不 了 手 。 」 「 青 貓 」 回 答 ： 「 我 完 全 明 白 ， 我 感 受 得 到 你 的 痛 苦 ！ 」

12 月 8 日 。 莉 莉 周 終 於 舉 辦 她 的 第 一 場 演 唱 會 。 蓮 見 約 好 與 「 青 貓 」 在 會 場 見 面 ， 沒 想 過 悲 劇 正 在 那 裡 守 候 著 他 … …

SYNOPSIS

Yuichi Hasumi (Hayato Ichihara) is in the 8th grade. At school he constantly gets picked on, bullied, roughed up and abused. In these suffocating junior high school days, his favourite singer; Lily Chou-Chou is all that matters to him. He keeps to his room all day long and lives on, in, and through the Lily Chou-Chou's web/fan site called "Liliphilia" which he manages. One day, "Philia" (Yuichi's nickname at the web/fan site) encounters another passionate Lily fan in the site named the "Blue Cat" and soon they become close friends.

One year ago. It was 1999 and Yuichi was 13. He had just entered junior high and met Hoshino, a model student with high marks. Hoshino introduced him into the musical world of Lily Chou-Chou. At the end of the school year, they joined the final summer training camp, but exhausted from it, they decided to plan a trip to Okinawa. But things took a turn for the worse when Hoshino almost drowned. Shortly after that they witnessed a bloody traffic accident. The trip appeared to foretell dark changes ahead.

The new term began with the classmates looking older. The general change in Hoshino ' s appearance and demeanor was noticeable and shocking. His fellow students got a first taste of it when he knocked down the school bully Inubushi, whom he further humiliated after class. Soon, Hoshino became a leader of his own gang and Yuichi also became a victim of his abuse.

The year 2000 unfolds and the students turn 14. Yuichi is now an 8th grade student and has to fork over pocket money to Hoshino. In order to get the cash he turns to minor crimes like shoplifting, petty theft, etc. Hoshino gets more and more powerful. He forces Shiori Tsuda, another classmate, to prostitute with older men and Yuichi is made to keep his eyes on her and the money.

On the web, 'Philia' writes, " I tried to kill myself but I couldn't do it. " And 'Blue Cat' responds, 'I understand. I share the same pain you do. " ' Philia ' was relieved to have ' Blue Cat ' in his life, someone who finally understands him.

December 8, 2000. Lily Chou-Chou finally holds her first concert. Full of hope and expectation, Yuichi heads for the concert, to see his idol as well as meet ' Blue Cat ' , without knowing that tragedy is awaiting ahead …

About Shunji Iwai

Born in 1962, Shunji Iwai had fallen for the cinema when he was in high school. After graduation from Yokohama University, he entered television as a director of TV drama, MTV and commercials. In 1993, he made a one-hour drama, Fireworks, for Fuji TV to wide acclaims and was awarded a Japan Film Directors ' Association Newcomers Prize - an unusual accolade for a television drama. This was followed by another short feature, Undo. The film was invited to the Young Cinema Forum at Berlin Film Festival and won a NETPAC Award for the most outstanding Asia film of the year. The film had garnered such acclaims that Fuji TV decided to release it theatrically after the broadcast.

In 1995, Iwai made his first full-length feature, Love Letter,, starring Miho Nakayama and Etsushi Toyokawa. The film was an immediate hit with the young audience in Japan and went on to break box office records in both Taiwan , Hong Kong, Singapore and Korea.

After Love Letter, Iwai made Picnic, a bittersweet allegory weaving together the reality of modern Tokyo with the fantasy of a group of mental patients, creating a surreal tapestry that is both tender and cruel. The film was, again, enormously popular, which prompted Fuji TV to green-light Swallowtail Butterfly, a US$5 million project which Iwai had been nurturing since 1993. April Story (1998), a medium-length feature starring the popular idol Matsu Takako, was another success with the youth market.

After April Story, Iwai decided to revive an old screenplay about the coming-of-age of two boys. As he was struggling to complete the script, he created a Web site devoted to a make-believe pop artist -- a Bjork-like rock star named Lily Chou- Chou -- and invited people to send in messages about her. Scores of music fans became obsessed with the site, and with solving a mystery that Iwai had concocted involving the murder of a Lily Chou-Chou fan. The result: Iwai got enough material to finish first a novel, then turn it into a screenplay and eventually make All About Lily Chou-Chou, a dramatic film about young Japanese students at a rural school who obsess over Chou-Chou's music, bully each other and find themselves in an unbearable pattern of abuse that culminates in a murder.

☆ 小 時 候 只 顧 看 《 哥 斯 拉 》 ， 從 怪 獸 電 影 到 荷 里 活 的 《 大 白 鯊 》 。 中 學 時 開 始 看 冷 門 的 藝 術 電 影 。

☆ 小 學 時 頗 古 怪 ， 不 愛 打 棒 球 ， 卻 喜 歡 獨 自 在 家 看 百 科 全 書 。 相 當 自 閉 的 少 年 時 代 。

☆ 十 八 歲 時 產 生 當 導 演 的 念 頭 ， 買 了 一 部 八 厘 米 攝 錄 機 。 約 三 年 後 ， 操 作 熟 練 了 ， 簡 直 是 愛 不 釋 手 ， 覺 得 假 使 將 此 變 成 工 作 便 好 了 。
