When a street-smart FBI agent (Lawrence) is sent to Georgia to protect a beautiful single mother and her son from an escaped convict, he is forced to impersonate a crass Southern granny known as Big Momma in order to remain incognito.

In Big Momma's House, Martin Lawrence is a street-smart FBI Agent who, after being sent to a small southern town to protect a beautiful single mother and her son from an escaped convict, is forced to impersonate a cantankerous southern granny known as Big Momma.
Malcolm Taylor (Lawrence) sets up a stakeout designed to trap the convict and protect the con's former flame, Sherry (Nia Long), who has trekked to the home of her loving granny, Big Momma. It's a simple plan, but there's one problem: Big Momma has unexpectedly left town. But with a few tricks of disguise, Malcolm totally transforms himself into Big Momma, even taking on the hefty granny's everyday routine from cooking soul food to delivering babies. As if things weren't complicated enough, Malcolm finds himself falling for Sherry. With time running out to trap the convict, things get even more out of control as the real Big Momma returns and has everyone seeing double.
